Just called in sick.

Just called in sick to work, im on nights at the minute, in the last 3 nights ive barely had 5 hours sleep, im an emotional wreck and crying over nothing. I just cant seem to switch off and go into a deep sleep, i feel shakey, sick and cold, just generally like ****. And i was meant to do another 3 12 hour shifts over the weekend, iv been on nights over 6 months and usually sleep like a log. But the last week has been terrible for me

Is it more than just tiredness, my mrs said it could be anxiety

do you like your job? I've had a couple of jobs I hated in the end and felt anxious/ not sleeping, calling in sick a lot etc.

can you think of any other reason you are feeling like this? do you think it's just sleep deprivation

ok, can you maybe get off nights or book a week or two off, not really sure apart from that

what's your sleeping enviroment like? do you have a dark room and a quiet house or is it a struggle? If I have stuff on my mind and am struggling to sleep I keep a pencil and paper by the bed and write down what I am thinking about (normally it's reminding myself to do stuff the next day) that can help

Sounds like more than tiredness to me, I've been there before and it's a horrible feeling.

I think you've done the right thing by taking a few days off, just try and relax and obviously get as much sleep as possible.

See how you feel after a few days break, if it's something worse than tiredness then you should know by then.

I used to do security. 12 hour shifts. 7pm to 7am. Quit after around 6 or so months because I hated it and it was the most anti social, least rewarding, soul stealing job I had ever done. I had to pay the bills somehow though. Never again. I was lucky enough to be in a position where I had something to fall back on, hope the same comes your way too dude.

I'd get your missus to phone him and explain the situation. I'd then go down the offie, get steamy drunk and sleep for 14 hours and reasses things tomorrow.

Yeah good idea. But surely you'll not be able to get that for this evening. i hate it when bosses try it on and allude to you losing your job when you're in pieces. C.unt. Get me the phone I'll phone him

I hope you sort it mate, anxiety can really mess you up

Stick to your guns, if you've told them you're not well (which you're not) then they will have to lump it and find cover.

    Hope you get yourself sorted

I started a job working nights a few weeks back and lasted less than 2 weeks, I think collectively I got about 3 hours sleep in the whole week. I was awake for 48 hours solid, then had a day off and didn't really sleep at all, then slept for 3 hours, then stayed awake for over another 70+ hours before I phoned up and jacked it in!

I've managed to get some door work from this week and hopefully have a few other things lined up, but still, I'm glad I put my health first.

Keep that text mate, very important. You've phoned in sick, following that your employer should not be harrassing you to return to work until you are well enough to do so. If they get funny about it, that text will be golden.

Also just to point out, you don't actually need a sick note until you've been absent from work 5+ working days. Prior to that you can simply complete a self cert. stating you were unwell. It might well be a good idea to visit your doc however, both for the good of your health and also so that you have the docs visit on record to refer back to should your employer continue to act like a tit.

Tbh you can do without all that slava on when you're already feeling ill / down at heel, employers really fcuk me off sometimes with their bullying tactics (you sound like a hard working employee in general). But you're entitled to time off if you're not feeling well mate.

How much sleep do you normally get.
Do you feel like this over the lack of sleep or something else ?
