Just got Fired.. no sorry "Let Go"

It's been two months now that I've worked for the bank - some of you may remember how incredibly happy I was to get the job.

I spoke up against the First Cashier because she wasn't training me properly - well at all really, and I was being treated badly. Obviously that reflected really badly on the manager. Now a couple weeks later I'm told I haven't provided enough references.

I was only given the chance to provide details of my work history but because all but one of my jobs were abroad a couple were difficult to get in contact with. One company had a change of address and another had gone out of business. I wasn't aware of any of this until my sister found out for me. The bank just said that the two companies never responded

Really it's my fault for putting down my real job history which was obviously all part time jobs starting at the age of 15.

I then provided 3 character references but they were refused. I even got ex-colleagues from the two 'missing' employers to confirm I worked for them and I got a copy of my tax form!

I was told twice by the manager that they had to be extra careful with me because they wanted to be sure I didn't work for the BBC.........................................................................................

This sucks.

    didnt work for the BBC?

what a wind up, crock of sh1t. you cant take blame for being honest about your work history and then the companies no longer being able to be contacted, these things happen. it doesnt mean your undercover reporting. if i honestly thought it would get you anywhere i would say to take it as high as possible and complain, but in all honesty it probably wont.

good luck in finding a new job.

Sorry to hear love that is not on at all. I am afraid that speaking up against anyone in a working environment nowadays is not aloud....(link to my political correctness b*llox comment in other thread). Kiss arses and brown nosers will get far I am afraid

Well our branch is umm.. not doing very well businesswise and even an imbecile can spend a day inside and see why. Not to mention the very serious rules being broken.

I can go on and on about how I've done the past couple months. Not to mention I've balanced EVERY single time (except when the first cashier decided to use my till for half the day....) and I was thrown onto the till full time by the second week.

My lack of training and attention was identified on one of the course so the complaint was brought to the attention of someone high but it didn't get me very far... it just got the heads at my branch very angry. That's when all this crazy business started.

Ah well, my fault for wanting to my job properly really.

Definately. Only problem now is that the area I live in is garbage and there are no other jobs available really.

Lloyd's is hiring but I doubt I'll get a very good reference from Barclays so I can probably forget about that.

No other jobs in the area really and I don't drive unfortunately. And now won't have the money to learn!

Ditto Kitty. I'd tell the BBC you were sacked because you were suspected of being an under cover reporter, suggest that they might have something to hide...

YIB, try a different bank. Screw barclays, ask them for a reference anyway.

It doesn't matter about your reference from Barclays, another bank may be interested because you've already been trained.

Lol I'm sure the BBC have more interesting things to look into. But I definately would co-operate if they were interested lol.

Thanks James - I'll need as many references as I can get lol

I've been on the phone loads today. Turns out they're not following procedures AT ALL and certain things are being avoided. So I'll be working on building my case for the next month or two.. should be an interesting experience.

Still have to look for a new job though.

And just for the record - I like Barclays as a company and I've met a lot of cool people working for them. I'm positive I would've been fine at another branch.

I didn't complete my training though.

I'm going to try Lloyd's TSB I don't think the others are hiring at the moment.

I'm sure Barclays will give me a bad reference though, what am I supposed to do about that? What do I say at the interview if I get one?

Aye, as a dishwasher.. really the best thing you can get is a bank job. If you can't do that then you have to work in one of two supermarkets or in one of the broken down shack restaurants/shops around.

Unlucky YIB... always best not to rock the boat until your in a position higher up the ladder

Positive side is as you were not getting good training and the branch didn't operate well there was nothing a part from the wages you have gained from there in personal development terms so you are better off out of there all be it not in the short term.

If I could recommend anything to you I'd say get into retail... a sports shop or something?
