Legs,is it just me?

But every time i train legs i feel like **** for the rest of the day.I used to train legs hard and heavy for low reps, but i found that even thogh i was making good strengh gains i was getting little in the way of size gains. So now i have changed to moderately heavy weight for higher reps to really flush the legs with blood, and so far the results have been spot on.Except that i feel crap all day afterwards like when you can feel your coming down with flu a couple of days before hand and you get that allover aching feeling and you generally feel low.It only lasts a day or so ,dont think its down to diet as i eat right and take plenty of supplements. Is this normal?

warm up with 2sets light leg ext. then 3-4 fairly heavy sets 12-20 reps.followed by a light warm up squat and again 3-4 working sets of about 10-12 reps. Then leg press 3-4 sets 20 reps.I swap around the order from time to time i find i get a better pump by doing leg ext. first

Are you doing the leg ext first to get more quad stimulation in your squats by way of pre exhaust? If so do front squats and drop the leg presses.

2-3 warm up sets of front squats followed by 4 working sets should be plently.

Follow this with some stiff leg deads and a bit of calf work, i know lots of people say that direct calf work is not a priority but then how many people have lagging calves? Not me!!

You choose a rep scheme that suits you but i would'nt go above 10, preferably 6 reps.

My guess is you feel sick either due to low blood sugar or a build up of blood lactate levels (probably the former)

Make sure you nutrition is spot on, especially your pre training and post training meals

Not just you, I have quite often had that feeling after doing back workouts. You could always change your leg workout to an evening session so you can sleep it off.

i know people that have had that problem including myself but i was nieve and believed i was training right(dumbass)
anyway i always carb up plenty especially before a leg workout..
i use 100% meltodextrin powder an hour b4 it is tasteless and gives you all the energy to do your legs without feeling groggy.

You may want to take in more carbs before your leg session and fast carbs straight after as legs are a bitch of a drain on your body's resources.

I'm the same as you Liz. Back always wipes me out harder than any other day. Gonna carb-up more just before and after back sessions in future, though not easy when you are cutting.

i sometimes feel sort of sick after a leg workout. it just depends on how hard i usually workout. it's usually after i workout really hard, i guess it's cause of all the straining.

    Rez,

Increase your water by at least 1/2 gallon (or 2 liters depending on which side of the pond you live). When you feel like that and you are eating well after, then it is almost always toxins built up. Drink lots of water and see what happens. (besides having to spend the day going to the john)

i just did legs yesterday for the first time in a week and that hurt so bad. i was dizzy feeling after my heavy sets. i've been slacking on legs so once i get back into the routine of doing them i will be okay when i do them. legs are not fun to work i think.
