It's been recommended to me as something great for finding jobs and getting business contacts. I found it to be completely useless. It's mostly just suits spewing pseudo-motivational bull**** and stroking their own ego. Right off the bat you're asked to reference half a dozen people as your "motivators" of sorts, and you have to pick between a line up you've probably never even heard about like it's common sense or in any way important to you to know the life and career of some CEO of a chinese piping company lol

I figure the people it's good for finding jobs are the sort of people whose jobs involve nothing but talking, sending emails and making charts.

It is good for finding jobs and networking, for certain professions. It's more just a medium for recruiters to get in touch with candidates. You wouldn't have employers engaging with candidates directly through it.

But obviously it's geared towards certain sectors. Saying it's useless for finding jobs if you're a mechanic or something (with the greatest of respect to mechanics) is like a 50 year old saying Facebook is crap because none of his friends use it. It's just not fit for your purpose.

I agree the motivational bullsh1t that people post on it is annoying, but it's a recent phenomenon and an inevitable symptom of the fact that it is at the end of the day a form of social media. But like facebook, just because it has a load of idiots posting stupid stuff on it, doesn't mean the platform itself isn't useful.

I got my last 3 jobs through LinkedIn. I would recommend it. Just don't read all the motivation articles.
