London Gyms

Hi

moving to London in a few weeks.

Would appreciate some recommendations for a good gym with reasonable membership fees.

Somewhere between Angel/ Barbican/ Liverpool St or somewhere convenient to these by tube.

Cheers,

Jon

    Cheers guys,

    thanks for the info,

Willie, Roger, sorry i wasn't smart enough to do a search!

Lee, someone mentioned LA fitness at Liverpool St, I suppose it depends on how good it is and how expensive, I'm probably looking for somewhere about $50 (pounds) per month, BTW is the 'London Wall' gym the same as the 'Liverpool St' gym, when I did a search I couldn't find a Liverpool St one.

The Iron - your tip sounds worth looking in to seriously, good price, and highly recommended by yourself, I respect personal recommendations a lot more than the blurb on any clubs website, but I'll look at that website for sure.

    Cheers guys

LA fitness are more the commercial gym, I have only been to one, but I am pretty sure they are all about the same and the weights they have on offer will probably be minimal with no squat rack and a modest amount of free weights!

How about making a gym in your bedroom or apt. get a power rack, a bench, and weights. gyms are a scam and just annoying to be in anyway.

    Just an idea though.

just go to the one nearest to you / easy to get to so you can work out for longer and get bk home quick enough to have a decent meal.

travelling from A to B in London is unlike any other place in the UK - easy on paper but can be utter hell in practice

Depends what sort of gym you want.

Virgin Active (holmes place) opposite barbican tube has everything you would ever need, even a 25m pool, EXCEPT atmosphere, they are all stuck up their own asses. It opens at 6 and shuts at 10.30pm. There is another one at the angel but haven't been in it.

London Wall FF is horrible, it has a decent lot of equipment but its downstairs with no natural light. A pool I would call a foot bath.

Muscleworks is more hardcore but very good. I would go there but they don't let women in and I have free membership at barbican.

Not trying to be a cheeky ****, but that's a bit ironic as it's usually a mod that suggests that someone searches for an answer to a question such as this.
