Long term keto/low carb

Hi,

I’ve been doing keto (or something like it) for approx. 4 months now. In that time I’ve dropped about 13kg and 6” from my waist, which isn’t astronomical but I’m happy with it particularly as I’ve done virtually no exercise and I tend to have big cheat days most weekends.

Nonetheless I still feel I have a fair bit to go before I get to a level of leanness I’m happy with, so my plan is to keep up this diet for the foreseeable future and at least until Christmas (when I get married, which is the main driver for this). At that point I will have been doing keto for 8-9 months.

Has anyone here ever done a keto/no or low carb diet long term or is there any particular issues with doing so?

Cheers

I've only been on the diet for 3 months and have had similar success with weight-loss although I'm doing it for health reasons rather than weight-loss.

As to long term keto, Luis Villasenor who created the ketogains web-site has been on the diet around 17-18 years. There aren't any health issues that I'm aware of - if you get a chance I would watch some interviews with Professor Dom D'Agnostino who has spent a lot of his career researching the ketogenic diet and its many applications; very interesting

Nothing wrong with keto long term health wise. In fact for those who are insulin resistant it’s the healthiest way to lo live as long as it’s done properly. There is a difference between keto and low carb. Are you testing blood ketones? Watch the cheat meals too. High fat/high sugar (burgers, pizza, ice cream is not the best way to to refeed. The last 2 months I’ve been doing 5 days a week of pure carnivore (meat, butter, cheese , eggs). One day I eat traditional keto with a few bits of veg and then I have a high carb day and cheat meal to end. Also doing lots of IF as this style of eating lends very well to fasting. I feel fantastic, weight is coming off and body comp is changing weekly and this def the way I’m going to be eating for a long time.

The only down side to a keto diet is sport performance but if you’re not lifting it’s not an issue.

    Ps go lift!
