I love the burn in the quads they generate, doing them high intensity gets the old heart going quite effectively as well.

Are lunges good for working the hamstrings? or are they an exercise specifically for targetting the quads???

i feel the burn on the quads more on lunges than i do on squats. dont know if im doing them wrong but hey.
do them with some heavy dumbbells for a good lower body workout.
i incorporated lunges into my routine about 6 months, i love em.

i especially like step up lunges - one foot on a step, lunge, push off back foot and come to stand on the step with back leg pulled up high in front.

Better than leg extentions, but not as good as squats.
