M5's Ultra-Hardcore Hyper Journal

Thought it was about time I started a journal so I can actually keep track of what im doing in the gym and in my garage (grip workouts).

Here's todays little grip workout:

3 1/4" pinch-grip block one hand holds
20kg - 27 seconds left hand, 10 seconds right hand
20kg - 3 x 10 second holds per hand

5" thick log deadlifts
I've got a picture of this below, so you can see what it is.
warmup - hold at lockout for about 10 seconds
7kg added - hold at lockout for about 10 seconds
9kg added - done 3 times

plate curls
10kg plate - 2 sets, 10 reps per hand (not to failure)

My routine is really hard to describe, as I've said before. You'll be getting to see it over the next few days and weeks though. Im sort of doing a bench workout, an overhead workout and a deadlift workout, and then start over again.

Im 265lbs right now, i've gained a bit of weight recently.

damn your heavier than you look. Is your other pic still up? Is that weight gain mainly muscle?

Well, I haven't visibly got 'fatter', so I think so. I measure my arms regularly (for vanity's sake), and they've gone up from 17" to 17 5/8".

Not sure. Its not heavy if you just picked it up... the difficulty is in picking it up with a double overhand grip! I had difficulty picking it off the floor when we first got it!

Im glad to see all the usual grip-monkeys posting (Vegan, DMPM, Pusha). Maybe we should come up with a name for ourselves... some sort of crew? [:p]

    Alright, todays workout at 10am.

    Seated overhead press
    30kg x 6 reps
    40kg x 5 reps
    50kg x 5 reps
    60kg x 3 reps
    70kg x 3 reps
    80kg x 5 reps
    90kg x 1 rep

    Front squat
    20kg x 5 reps
    60kg x 5 reps
    80kg x 3 reps
    100kg x 3 reps
120kg x 3 repsWould have carried on with these for a few more sets, but some guy was bugging me, wanting to use the rack for shrugs

    Weighted sit-ups
    10kg on chest x 10 reps
    10kg on chest x 10 reps
    30kg on chest x 10 reps

Not the greatest workout ever, but im happy with it. The front squats were the let down because of the interuption and the fact that my wrists were really hurting (I haven't front squatted for a couple of weeks).

Also, I think I should state that I never go to failure.

I started training like a little girl (bench press and biceps) when I was 15, and I started training like a man about a year ago.

I don't eat badly, and I don't eat a ridiculous amount - I think I may have the slowest metabolism ever achieved. (I also eat small children sometimes)

Good to see this journal Mikey. Im interested to see how you have incorporated the westside styles into your own method.

Whats your strength on the rolling thunder up to???

I think we need a Grip forum so the people that train grip can talk more about their grip training and not to mention there are always lots of questions lately about grip workouts/exercises.

I made a log bar over the weekend. Ill post a picture up for all the other "animals" around here to see.

M5, Do you take any supplements?

And i agree with Dano, a grip forum would be a useful addition, all things will come to those who wait, im sure.
