MP take steps to fix whey issues

do you a little bit of a misunderstanding from a mod, you will note that a couple of my posts have now been removed. i have exchanged mail with the mod over the matter.

its sort of forces me to start a new thread to update those that read about the previous problem i have had with the whey protein from MyProtein. i said i would report back and tell you all what MP have done to sort the problem, be it in their favour or otherwise.

after a confusing mail from them this morning that i asked for clarification on (i didnt want to post it up with my opinion of it, only to later find out that i had misunderstood there intentions) i had a telephone call from them today. they were clearly not pleased that a customer of theres was so upset by their product, and have suggested replacing the poor product. they even went further, saying that before they did that they would send me a sample of the replacement product to be sure that i am happy with the product set to replace the poor first batch.

it would seem, though it hasnt happened yet, that MP are attempting to fix the situation. companies do make mistakes and its what they do about those mistakes that dictate whether you should del with them in teh future. so far, first impressions are that MP are taking steps to fix this particular mistake, and so that can only be a credit to them. i will report in due course the final outcome, but so far so good, and thank you MP

Nah that was me and my trusty sieve, but tigernut and I both ordered on the same date so I'm guessing we've got the same stuff. I don't want to keep going on about it though as 99.99% of the time MP's products will be top quality, and I'm still going to use them for my next lot of whey once I've gulped down the rest of this stuff.

Was this stuff a very white colour, chalky texture, didn't mix and had a nasty glue-like taste?

    x2,x3?? lol

funny how things can spiral out of control sometimes isn't it.

the problem was pretty much what steve said. the issue was a batch of whiter (yes daveo) poorly mixing and sort of baby sick tasting whey that they had sent me, that wouldn't mix at all in semi skimmed milk, my preferred method, and in water was lumpy, but not large lumps like you would imagine, just loads of tiny 'stick in your teeth' lumps that left a foul taste in your mouth, and tasted bad full stop. i figured it was a lack of instantiser of something, but i dont know the processes involved proper so i cant say for sure.

this wasn't the issue as such though, as that kind of thing should stay off the board and i ain't one for bringing stuff like that onto the board anyway, but after doing all the usual things including sending a large sample back to them so they could not only mix some, but test it if needs be, i had a pretty negative response. i wasnt happy and so hoping to get the attention and/or let people know on here, i bought it to the attention of the board.

fortunately someone working for MP that understands the importance of customer service took this up, phoned me today and suggested that she wasn't happy that MP had let me down and suggested the above stuff in the original post at the start of this thread to sort it out. all in all a much more MP like attitude and the original reason why i shop there anyway.

to prove the point, it was other the other week when the order came that i phoned just to ask for a delivery date for it. it had been about 3 days thats all. out of the blue without any prompting they said they werent please it had taken so long to get the order out and offered a voucher code for a discount off the next order!! now you see, thats much more like why i shop with MP and so i can only assume this blip with a dodgy batch of whey is a one off.

on the other hand, lets see what they do with the replacement yet. i'm tiring of eating flapjacks out the stuff and i'm sure there making me bloat a bit. the other half is sick of the smell in the house aswell and i can smell it in the oven for ages after. TIO might be able to cook um, but i aint so clever at it!

i dont see them going back on what they have said now though, and so it will be thumbs up again to MP if all goes well

this is interesting because i had the same problem. The Vannilla MP max whey i got was absolutly disgustung, I cant drink it without double the quantity of milk, so i just stopped having it. Thing is i am skint and forced my self to go through half the tub now, just thought thats the way their proten shakes are.

It tastes sharp and bit like vomit. Maybe i should send them an email

MP has always been rubbish, the postage and packaging is expensive, it takes ages to arrive and the whey never tastes that good anyway. You're better off going to http://www.bodyactive-online.co.uk and there's all sorts of things there at the lowest prices and the delivery is fast.

Wish I got a voucher code. My order is two and a half months late. Happy happy happy.

Without knowing the reasons why your order is late (I'm sure there is a good reason?) I can't help with specifics as you do need to speak to our CS team direct. However if your order is late then we will refund your P&P for you of course. Just contact us direct...

That sounds exactly like the stuff Adonis sent me.
You should be glad that MP care enough to even try to help you, Adonis basically just told me to stuff it.

I ended up buying another 5 kilos from *the place where the quality is always the same* and mixed the two together. It was fine like that.

But if MP are going to exchange it then great.

Glad i have never had a dodgy batch, but to be fair it is each batch will be relatively different, when i first ordered unflavoured it was rank! next batch was like thick creamy milk!

slightly O/T but MP i recived my Thermopure today and the bottles are mint! :)

Ingredients: whey protein concentrate 80%, instantising agent (soy lecithin) [a very small amount is added].

RE: MP take steps to fix whey issues 2008/05/15 13:56:11 (permalink)
    right, some good news.

as promised, a parcel finally arrived today with the sample of the replacement product in it. they also sent me back the whey i sent them, or what they hadn't used of it anyway. naturally i wanted to test this new product so following a similar thing to there testing or mine (in undisclosed email a few days ago from them) i took 200ml of water and what was left of my test sample (66g) and matched it with their new test sample.

it was difficult to get a picture of the differences, but the one difference i would of loved to of been able to show was the smell. right away when i opened the shaker lid i knew without tasting that there replacement sample was of the quality that i expect from them. the lovely, buttercreamy smell wafted from it and into my nostrils. the taste was of the same high standard. no bits, no nasty aftertaste, no problems. picture wise if was hard to show the differences, though in the array of shots i took this one was of interest. look at the seperated sample on the left with the frothy top, it almost has a yellow see through appearance aswell. the one on the right is the excellent tasting new sample of their usual standard. it doesnt prove alot i know but you will just have to take my word for it. i dont know what goes wrong where with whey but its almost like the stuff goes sour or something, probably not in the control of MP or any of the retailers, but the QC lab should be picking the problem up.

to MP now for a minute.

firstly please refer to email sent regarding this, but from this thread and that mail you can see that this new product is of the standard i shout your praises in the gym and on here for, and so yes, thank you, thats fine. its excellent stuff and what i would say to everyone as what i normally receive from yourselves when they ask about MP quality.

    1) is that an now defunct Adonis shaker I see before me ha ha 2) Sample on the left looks a lot like a Euro whey (UK based) which comes in a defatted version (we have a similar but not quite the same product inb a 4-kilo tub). The defatted product lasted weeks before we stopped selling it as it was not at all popular in spite of it being very low in fat etc.

It wont have gone sour, that was, because of the lack of fat (taste binding to the fat globules) both the normal appearance and the taste, while not acidic per se was 'different'.
