MRP's okay post workout?

I fully realise the need for a fast releasing protein straight after a heavy weight session but am I correct in saying that because most MRP's contain whey, an MRP mixed with water post workout would be sufficient?

I am trying to pack on muscle size and weight, so thought an MRP may well be a better post drink than just plain whey?

Thanks, SC

in theory an MRP is maltodextrin and whey in most cases, this would be good in water PWO for those who are not too concerned about carb intake PWO (ie on limited cutting cals) although my only issue with MRPs is the ratio of pro to carbs

if this ratio fits in with the diet, i dont see why not if you are unable to take stanard wheywithout carbs or with dextrose/banana

wont be the end of the world IMO

maltodextrin has a GI of 150 according to many sources, which should be sufficient to promote an insulin spike if you require one

Sorry this is going a little beyond my already limited knowledge!

Toxic when you say an 'insulin spike' do I need this after I train? All I want is to get in some good Protein after I train with water that doesnt taste gak! This is another reason I had been considering maybe Met-Rx MRP, thought this might mix okay in a a shaker with water and give me a decent amount of protein with the added bonus of extra cals and carbs?

    Sorry...just call me a newbie!!

Yes mate you do want an insulin spike...this causes the cells to 'open up' to allow more amino acids (from the protein) to enter the cells. The only thing with MRP's is that they often contain a protein blend....therefore caseinate, egg, soya or milk protein, which are 'slower release'

Ideally you want whey because of its quick digestability..but as mentioned..it aint the be all and end all...if its all that u have 2 hand...get it down u!

Thanks for your replys. I think I'm gonna have one last bash at a using up my unflavoured whey I have, gonna buy some nesquik powder tomoz and chuck some of that in with it and see if it's palatable when mixed with water!? If not I think I'll give some Supreme Whey or Designer Whey a go.
