Ar you saying a separate area for women is a bad thing? Or are you saying that being told that you wouldn't want to train with men was wrong? Obviously how would he know where and with whom you'd want to train but is what he said a real issue for you?

If I was in Gingernut's situation, I wouldn't care if there was a separate area. But I would care that  anyone (especially a complete stranger) felt they needed to tell me where I would want to train. Why pipe up at all? I'm sure GN is capable of working out which part of a gym she wants to train in, and making her way to it. He just didn't need to comment, did he?

Hello xx....got the females members coming out the woodwork now

Just thinking that. Genuinely interested to know why more don't post on here.

Not just female members, I think there's been a decline in most members posting, you only have to look at the general section and how much slower it is these days, used to cover 4/5 pages once upon a time. I think the other social platforms have taken over a lot more. I prefer a forum personally but sadly there's less interaction.

I think we will get busy again if fb and sh1tter keep banning people, people go through phases too but generally lifters will always return here.

Without sounding like a cuck, most guys in gyms (and most places now) are cocks.
Stuck up attitude of "me, me me".
But it annoys the **** out of me the way guys in gyms practically stalk the females. They're about 30 seconds from whipping it out and masturbating.
Get in, train, get the **** out.

From what you've said, there seems like there's a chunk missing from this story. Why would people deface a photograph or be a twat towards her unless there was history or some specific motivation? Not saying mindless acts of vandalism / bullying don't occur, but seems like there's something else going on behind the scenes?

Why would there need to be anymore to it? First time for everything as they say!! Maybe the idiots that this did are even more immature than the normal idiots we all dislike in the gym?

I'm the person this is about and I've done nothing more than be a decent gym member. The attitude isn't only towards me, it's a culture that predates my membership. One member told me he only trains out of hours because he can't stand the attitude of some of the other members. It starts from the way they even park their cars, leave dirty shakers out, don't clear away weights, stand in the door ways laughing into their mobile phones (think they are looking at videos or social media) whilst I have to say 'excuse me, excuse me' to be able to move around and train.

I train in different gyms, and have friends who own gyms and never seen anything like this. Some of the other people running other gyms have said they've heard similar tales from others who have left.

I tried to manage it, in the end I couldn't and this has been very upsetting.

I think a lot of it comes down to plain old jealousy, as I said in my earlier post.

We often talk about gym members being supportive, and camaraderie, but sadly that is only half the story.

I have seen loads of gym members do very well at various sports over the years, and what I see almost every time is this -

1) Member shows potential, fellow gym members are supportive, other than the odd one who will mock them.

2) Member starts to do well,  - Support and pride mostly, but more and more will make sly digs.

3) Member makes a name for themselves -  Still a core of support, but the number of sly digs, and Steroid accusations goes through the roof.

4) Member gets tired of the **** and stops talking to people that are talking **** about them - Member is then accused of disappearing up their own backside.

Sadly some people react badly to the success of others, usually those that struggle to achieve themselves,  these people are best ignored.  It would be nice to think that the Gym owners would step in and put their foot down, but if the idiots pay their membership, and spend money, this is where most club owners loyalty lies unfortunately.

It kind of started about a year before I joined, I went for a look around, a man training downstairs told me that the 'ladies train upstairs, you won't want to train down here love'.

At that point the person making the comment didn't know anything about me.

There's a ladies entrance most women sign in there and disappear upstairs to classes, or use the cardio and limited weight training equipment.

Fcuk me and you went on to train there?......I've never heard such things in 25+ years of using gyms.....If anyone said that in our gym he'd really wished he hadn't.

Finally worked out how to log back in (after about 3 years) but yes this thread prompted me!

Just to throw my own hat into the ring (snapback with logo on online clothing company, obvs): I train in an independent owner/managed gym which is equipped for powerlifters, serious bodybuilding, cardio. I've never had anything negative against myself as a female training there. Never seen any either. We do have competitive female bodybuilders, and complete newbies, and everything in between. No negativity. The odd bit of "excess looking" but tbf I do my fair share of "excess looking" at guys too. I've never seen or heard anything pervy, or unsettling, certainly not disrespectful or threatening.

I also sometimes train at a local Trugym which is much more college aged boys first gym membership kind of place. But again I've never seen or heard anything against female members there. In fact I've been offered a spot, and congratulated on lifts, and asked "what I'm training for" and things.

If I was owner of the gym in question I would either have banned the people who defaced GN's poster, or given them a very hard time over it and suggested the apologise to her in person. But then again I see it as an example of wider issues re men's attitudes to women taking up space, and I don't have a single second of time for that sh*t.

Hi! I used to post here a lot, and then for some reason (computer crash I think) I got locked out or forgot my password...and I kind of got out of the habit. I post on another forum, and try to limit my online time (ha!) so...when I lost access here I didn't try to hard to get back in. Then FB got a lot more forum-like with "groups" etc.

I think in general much fewer women post on BB forums. The other one I'm on is much smaller (and more niche) but AFAIK I am the only female on it.

Crazy to think this still happens - i've trained at 2 spit and sawdust gyms in the Essex area and fitness first down the city. Really good owners management in all of these and a mixtures of male/females from newbs to competing in various events and all reaction would be to ban the w*nkers and move on.

Keep on training...

Sorry I was sensitive in my initial replies, reading this thread threw me right back into the whole experience again.

What I'd like to say is thank you for the input so far, and to Kitty for starting this thread which I knew nothing about. I've found a lot of positivity here, and like many of you have never come across anything like this before. I'd like to say a bit more but I'm also reluctant to slag others off. What I will say is that the members and staff at the gym concerned have known each other a long time, and around here many people are related. Me coming in as an outsider has brought in let's say independent 'fresh eyes'. I had heard stories of others not liking it there, and for quite a long time I was defensive thinking that it was just sour grapes, back biting, that sort of thing. Since leaving I've been told I'm not the first to come away with similar tales.

Feeling really relaxed at the new place now, initially I felt like a bit of a leper and very lost but slowly my confidence is returning. Also changed the gym name on my PCA entry form! Imagine that being called out on stage.

Should have made an absolute mess on your last session there - block the toilet with excess bog roll, leave weights everywhere etc.

I think some of the treatment you have been through can happen to newbies in some gyms. Ie skinny with very little gym experience.

Treat others how you wish to be treated, ignore the big headed t*ats. My guess is they have tiny willy's and are scared you might outlift them and their ego.

No problem at all in our gym, three or four regular girls turn up.

I get the impression they like the gym because there are no posers trying to talk to them, were all ugly, so no where we stand.

You can always tell the caliber of the gym by the squat rack and Olympic lifting platform if its barely used you know its going to be full of cnuts. If its busy then will be ok ime.

In my current gym they have two platforms & two squat racks, they are essentially the centrepoint of the gym.  Indeed it has the lowest tosser-count of any gym I've ever used. in fact I am confident that if a tosser emerged, they would be removed without hesitation.

Not a bad rule of thumb!

I train at a large commercial gym .As far as i am aware there has only ever been one problem regarding females training and that was a group of young lads taking the p**s out of a girl who was overweight.Needless to say they were reported and i think membership terminated.
In general theres very little conversation with anybody -even in the changing rooms , no one says hi or passes time of day Being a very open and friendly type of guy , i find it very odd .It seems people are so wrapped up in themselves, or is it because of social media that the art of conversation has died.

so going back to the title - the girls get on with the job in hand , they seem more focused than some of the lads especially the younger age and apart from that one incident everyone seems to mix fine , probably due to the fact they keep themselves to themselves
