Mono/polyunsaturated fats and weight loss?

I'm sure i read a while back that, although a calorie is a calorie no matter where it comes from, monosaturates etc are used differently by the body and can aid weight loss.

Can anybody clear this idea up for me, ideally some links or scientific literature?

Thanks

Shane

Both MUFA's and PUFA's need to be converted to SFA's before storage as BF, which requires some energy. They also have slightly less energy respectively (fractional). In physical terms, there will be little difference if burned. How much difference this makes when consumed is anyone's guess. I believe there are studies comparing the effects of fat gain between consumed oleic acid (mufa), and palmitic acid (SFA). I don't have a link.

    Cheers Ink

The reason i'm asking is because when advising clients on weight loss, it sound hypercriticle to tell them to get plenty of 'good fats' when society is telling them to eat less fat because of the high calorie content..get what i'm saying?

Calorie control is the key, not exclusion of healthy foods/dietry fats as you'll obviously know. Good fats are high in calories, but they don't need to go crazy with them.
