More "Gym management" ranting......

Following on from Righty's thread last week .....

One of our treadmills is down - it is cutting out whenever you go over 4mph on it

The first point anyone mentioned this to us was Friday evening so there was not a lot we could do until Monday (yesterday) - otherwise ,I tried recalibarating etc ,to no avail - We have notified Startrac and they are sending out an engineer today

Now , Some of the members are bleating on like I have just kicked their cats to death or something ! - 'Why can't you just get one that works? " is their "helpful" suggestion - Yeah , OK - we'll spend another £5,000 and bin the one we spent £5k on just over a year ago , anything to keep you happy - after all you DO pay £12 per month !! - Which , interestingly means it would take you over 30 years to cover the cost of a new treadmill at that rate

Why not use one of the other 60 pieces of working equipment in the Gym ? Which we recently spent £20,000 on improving for you ?

I wouldn't mind .but it was a nice sunny day and we are right on top of miles of long straight promenade !!

Can you put a sign on it saying "Maximum Speed 4mph" so anyone that wants a bit of a stroll can still use it.

Agree though, the second a piece of equipment breaks down you'll have a stream of members complaining as if that will magically expedite the repair by the manufacturers/engineers.

Just give them my number and I'll abuse them for you. Then you can say 'oh, that's not the number I meant to give you'. Of course it falls down on my going 'shut the F&&k up you whining little...' and so on.

LMC- This is pretty much what we have done , together with an apology and the time/date the fault was reported , to make matters
worse , Startrac are unable to get anyone here till tomorrow now

Cheers Mobster ! - we may have to take you up on that offer of being a 'Call Centre'

My favorurite response at the moment is to tell the ladies it is because their BMI is too high - this shuts them up pretty rapidly

What can we do ? We used a reputable company, if we go anywhere else to get it repaired we void our warranty ! , and even if we did they may not be any quicker than Startrac !!

Some of the ladies "ganged up" on the Girl working this morning and threatened to 'go to another gym' - I'd have terminated their memberships there and then !! - but then CS was never my strongpoint

To be fair , the Ladies in question are quite demanding , and I know there is not a gym locally that will meet their needs as they want
    1) Cheap membership

    2) Early opening hours

    3) Lots of Cardio

...Although other gyms locally cater for each of these , we are the only one I know that is prepared to do all three

To be honest , I'd be glad to see the back of the miserable old bats !

I think any job working with the public is hard, I spent a good few years working in hotels and pubs and by the time I finished I hated people, no matter how helpfull I was they were always demanding and ungrateful.

Mate, if you could fix equipment in that short space of time I would be impressed as a memeber!

La Fitness are shocking, completely and utterly useless.

And its not machines they cant fix.

over a month ago the lat pull down bar snapped!....still not been replaced!

Our cable row has been out of order since new year, the reason they're not repairing it? They are supposedly refitting most of the equipment in the summer Which infact was supposed to be done over christmas and then easter, so doubtfully they'll get it done over summer still.

The other thing that annoys me is that 3-4 years ago , we had 2 rowers , 2 (crap) treadmills , 2 bikes , and 2 crosstrainers

We NOW have 3 rowers (one more) , 3 decent new treadmills (one more,) , 4 new bikes (two more ,) and 4 crosstrainers (again all 4 brand new)

So you'd expect the members be really pleased and grateful ? Are they f*** ! - The only comment we get is " So how come there are only 3 treadmills when there are 4 cross trainers ? "

    I really despise these people

Yeah , I should add that £12pm is a 36 month contract - so you are tied in for 3 years - Not ideal for everyone , but if you are firmly rooted , and dedicated it is amazing value ! (£144 per year ) - and the gym is pretty well equipped with dumbells up to 80k and loads of free weights
During promotions we also offer 3 years advance payment for £295 !!! - less than £100 a year !!

Like I say ,not for everyone , but I know many that get great value for money out of it !

LOL , no - it's in the "wealthy" south east (Whitstable ) - House prices around our particular town are high (compared to the larger locality ) - and generally we pay a premium on everything from Parking to Ice cream ! - Although having said that , it is the tourists that drive these things up
I was using the Very same gym 15 years ago and paying £35 a month !! - we had far less equipment in those days , but simply paid the money and used the gym - if something got broke we'd normally be happy if it was repaired in a couple of weeks !

£12 per month is such a pawltry amount of money IMO - but those that pay it seem to want more for their £12 than the "full price" members ever do !
