Most hated job you've ever had

What job have you hated the most and why?

I've had some **** jobs in my times pre-, during and post uni - all short term, but some I've loathed.

I worked for a plastics company where there were 2 x 3 hour shifts with no breaks, standing for all that time and you got shouted at if you didn't keep up.  Lasted 6 days

Worked in a hotel kitchen twenty odd years ago.
Actually wasn't too bad. Late hours though.

Picking bedding plants when I was 16 , 8 hours a day on your hands and knees in the mud counting bunches of 25 plants . Also had a 1 hour commute each way on a 50cc scooter that used to finish the day off nicely

Steel factory after leaving uni.
10 hour shifts, standing on concrete floors (killer on your feet) with two breaks.  This was before minimum wage so was on a pitance...

Only had 1 job before what I do now, I worked in Tesco for around 7 years, the first 4/5 years just on the checkouts while I was at college, that wasnt too bad. Then when I left college I stepped up to being a Team Leader for the next 2/3 years. I hated being a Team Leader sooooo much.

I got extremely lucky with a business I started and walked out of Tesco one day after some bitch of a manager had a go at me.

Seriously the best day off my life and have never looked back

I do a lot of push ups and sit ups. And I drink plenty of milk.

I worked in food carton printing factory.
My job was tearing the "flash" or waste cardboard off the printed cardboard before it went to be folded into cartons.
They were stacked about four feet high on pallets and we used our bare hands and a hammer to tear the cardboard off.
After 1 hour I had no skin left on my knuckles..I lasted three weeks. There were guys there who had been doing the job for years. All for  about £4.00/hour IIRC

I have actually never hated a job.
First job when at school. Collecting eggs at a battery hen farm. Totally stunk was really dusty but I made good pocket money.
2nd school job. Working at a petrol station. Easy money and we used to play cards all the time (heap of us from school worked there)
Summer job before joining the navy- pie factory, horrible conditions but great people to work with.
Navy - tough going but gave me a good shake up and taught me some of life's lessons.
Did an apprenticeship with bp which was good. Then went offshore. Due to family issues and stuff from my past and my wife giving birth I eventually had a bit of a mental breakdown while offshore and had to hack it, but it paid bills and it was me that was the weak link not the job.
So no, I have always seen something positive in my work and I have been lucky I guess.
Had other good jobs, reliability consultant, key account manager, monarchy contracted hit man, onshore support engineer, ops engineer, global maintenance manager.
Oil and gas, paid the bills and allowed my family to live well.

How much of that money I wish I could give up now for my wife's health 😞

I've been lucky and I can pick and choose who I work for, but late 2011 did what was to be a month long contract for this absolute knob of a young kid about 24, all 'Daddy's money' (nothing wrong with to the vast majority of people born into money but this one was a stereotypical tosser rich kid), in hindsight I've no idea what made me forget my principles and take him as a client, actually heard him screaming, literally, about a function in Excel he expected me to fix on the spot (whilst I was building an entirely new ERM), rinse repeat for about 4 days about everything down to his sodding internet connection, when I basically told him to go fck himself.

Had a couple of bad gigs way back in the day, but neither compared to this twat.

So that reliability consultant job sounds interesting?...

Nothing to write home about, ensured that things ran smoothly, provided advice or took action as required. Fair bit of travel, a lot of time on my own though. Did travel in groups and went to some fairly controversial places.

Worked down a coal mine on the coal face repairing hydraulic cutting gear and roof supports when it broke down.  Spent the shifts hoping it would not while breathing dust, sweating like a pig

The money was very good indeed.

The conditions and job were horrible and it was dangerous.

I've worked since I was 10 years old! Definitely illegal but you could get away with it then... Collecting trolleys in a car park, pharmacy assistant, I even did tax returns from 13, and worked behind a bar for the millennium New Years... I was 13 😂😂

No complaints about a woman with a work ethic!!  :)

I did that mate, but for a Greeting Card printing company. The process was referred to as 'pulling out' .

Worst I think was dishwasher loader / unloader. Lasted 5 days.

My first job after leaving school. Worked as an office junior/filing clerk/post room/etc, for an insurance company in Leeds. Was there about three years I think and for two of them was kept on a temporary contract so no sick pay, no holiday pay, and zero job security. To make matters worse for some reason the people there were absolutely horrible to me (as a young 16/17/18 yr old not wanting to say boo to a goose). To this day I've no idea why there were like that, or why I stuck at it for so long. I suppose when it's your first ever real job you don't know when things just aren't right. Never had issues like it since so at least I can be fairly certain it was nothing to do with me and the problem must have lay with them for whatever reason. Went on to build a fairly decent career in the insurance sector before jacking it in when I emigrated.

You did gain far too much fat though,I mean, you're not muscular at all, you're just a fat mess.

The most tedious job I've had was data entry, but it was part time and I didn't do it long, so I'd go with the door to door a sales job I had. It was commission only pay, and I wasn't very good at it, so although it was quite fun, I think I was earning about 20p an hour on average.

When I left the RAF after 12 years in 2000 I was still on pay for three months so I wasn't fussed about getting a civilian job for a while but I became bored and decided "why not"?

I ended up working for a picture framing warehouse of all things. There were only four people there and I was expected as the junior employee (aged 35) to prepare invoices, take deliveries, carry massive packs of glass, framing wood and mounting card up two flights of stairs, serve customers, take telephone orders and make the tea for a pittance of pay. Lasted three months until I began work at a company I still work for today. Leaving the forces hit me with a bang right down to earth.

Currently I've been on a permanent night shift for over 9 years and it's killing me. But that's another story.

Some of you wouldn't last 5 minutes in the some of the jobs I've done, some of the toughest physically was working 12 hours days as a labourer, 7am-7pm with 30 min or so lunch, consisting of digging up concrete, filling up wheel barrows, running up into the skip via a long piece of wood, tip and repeat, bricks up and down ladders, shovelling concrete, digging trenches, when you do this for 12 hours everyday you know about hard work, how many guys I see come and last 5 minutes only be told to piss off home, as they simply didn't have the balls, not a job you want to be doing for life for sure.

Also worked in some retail shops where you have to process 150 pieces of stock per hour per person, taking it from the lorry in crates up into your stock room, unpacking it at lightening speed, tagging it, hanging then blitzing to the shop floor to get it out, your deadline for 5000 piece deliveries is 12am from starting at 6-7, usually a team of 4 or so, but you have to kick butt to get it done, no time for talking or having a laugh, each and every girl that done it lasted no longer than a few months, even most guys didn't last that long, and most were pretty useless at doing it, never getting anywhere near 150 pieces, most averaging 60-90, you got the odd worker that could do it day in day out, but were talking 1 in a 100, you needed to be extremely motivated to get this sh*t done day in day out.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.
