Motorbike Licence

For all you bikers.

I am 26 and have decided i want to learn to ride a motorbike.
How long and how much does it cost to go from no experience to be able to ride a 600cc, for example.

Been thinking about it for a while, and followed a bike to the gym today, well for about 2 seconds.

because you are over the age of 21, you can take a Direct Access Course. This combines the CBT, theory test and practical test in one hit.

Theory costs you £30 & your test £50.

Not to sure about price of lessons. hope that help a bit

Most companies that do the Direct access course, they usually do 3,4 or 5 day courses

Maybe have a look here DSA GOV

Gone up a bit since i took my test in 1987.

Back then you had a couple of hours training and took your part 1,which was riding round some cones. Then in part 2 the examiner stood at the side of the road and watched you go both ways round the block,an emergency stop, then a few highway code questions.None of this following you round on a bike nonsense.

You could ride up to 125cc as a learner, then after passing your part 2,anything you wanted.I believe now it is more restricted in jumping engine sizes after taking your test?.

i passed my test just under 2 weeks ago

i payed £120 for the cbt which i took early march
£30 for my theory test late march
£510 for a 3 day das which consists of 2 full days training and test on 3rd day

    then you need

    a, a bike of course
b, helmet, leathers, gloves, boots etc allow an absolute minimum of £500 (closer to £1k-£1.5k if you want decent gear)
    c, insurance for me at 25 on a '99 gsxr 600 £450

    needless to say im SKINT!

Im thinking about doing it, but not sure i would be confident enough to take a test after 3 days and then if i fail its £500 odd quid down the drain.

a few years back all training centres used to run this way but now alot dont, if you can find one that still does then great but there isnt one in leicester, all of them charge you for additional training.

muscleman - the school i used give you an assessment before you book to see if 2 days will be enough, you can have more training (but of course that costs more)
