Movement for lats?

I need to gain some mass on my lats and I am finding wide grip pull down difficult. I am 6ft 4 and due to having longer arms I get strain on my shoulders. The sort of strain that makes you decide not to do the exercise. Maybe when I have built shoulders up in mass and strength I will be ok doing the exercise.

For the time being I have been doing close grip pull downs and like this exercise, but its isnt working my lats.

I know people will suggest rows but I train with my friend and when we do rows it takes up half our sesh in the gym. Might have to settle with rows if I cant find an alternative.

    My take...

A big back = Deadlift, chins and rows - trained heavy.
