Moving to the "city"

OK, I'm a fairly new member here but wanted to ask you lot for some advice. I've just finished Uni and cannot get a job at all. (yeah, hold them tears back ;) ) Applied fopr everything from bar work to graduate positions but no such luck as yet. Apart from no money I've got nothing to do!

I think one problem is living in such a small city in the North-East where there is not much work in comparision to the rest of the country anyway. What do you think it would be like to go to one of the big citys like London, Manchester etc. to get a job (anything at first to pay the bills) and a room to live in?

I need to earn some money!!!

I live in Durham. Graduated in Mechanical Systems Engineering. No idea what I want to do! I want to earn enough to have a good standard of living (say 20000) but not to work 52 weeks a year, 7 days a week...
