Muscle Pain?

Yo

Ive been out of the Fitness game for too long now so Ive rejoined my local gym to get rid of a few spare tyres. Im 25 years old 5'10" 80kg. I used to regularly lift weights at my uni gym, but havent done so for over a year, might be close to 2 years now. I started up on Monday 12/05/08. Obviously i couldnt start off with lifting what I used to do so i just did some Bicep and tricep curls and shoulder and chest presses with two 10 kg dumbells. However after I woke up the next day my arms were in so much pain i couldnt bend them. As the day went on i could just about bend both arms, but there was still pain. This has stayed with me since then albeit less pain. What did i do wrong and how can i prevent it again? Does anyone have any warm-up/ down techniques that may prevent this from happening again?

Thanks all

Sounds like delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). It can be quite severe after a long period of inactivity

As you start getting back into training, it should ease as your muscles get used to what you want them to do. I hardly ever get it now, just certain areas

    Thanks

Do you think i should continue to lift weights through the pain or wait until it completely dissappears?

I tend to train through it - once the muscles have warmed up and the blood's pumping, the soreness seems to disappear

    It's up to you though

When I started a month and a half ago I couldn't fully extend my biceps for 3 days after my first back/biceps routine. I tried to take it easy in the first workout but apparently I didn't go easy enough. It gradually went away over the three days, but went extra easy two days later when I did chest/triceps.

One week later when I got to my back/biceps day again I was ready to go.

    Thanks guys

I worked out today but did mainly cardio. I'll try and do some weights on sat and see how it goes.
