My Journal

So
I've hit 40 and have decided to try and improve my physique.  I've been training a long while but have been doing it half-arsed for the past 10 years. I'm 5'10'' and 15st 10lb as of 1930 today, 28/10/18.  I'll sling some pictures up on the next post.

Good luck mate, some great people on the journals section! Lots of help and motivation and I think it's good to post updates as not only does it provide a record of progress for you but also makes thinks a little more "accountable" in that when things aren't going well you have others to give you a little push!

    Welcome mate!

You have a good frame to build on and not a huge amount of fat either. Good start.

So what is the destination and which road are you taking?

Thank you for the comments and apologies for the late response.

I'm trying to get leaner and healthier.  I started a new job in September and it's been a nightmare from day one.  It's a job that I wanted to do for around ten years and it was messing my head up; that a long held ambition had gone sour.  So, twelve minutes ago; I jacked it in.  I have put on eighteen pounds since I started as I've been comfort eating, so the first goal is to get back to my weight that I started there with.

As of 29/10/18, I have been doing full body workouts (well, almost full body) as my body seems to respond well to them.  I've not done them for years due to being lazy. This weeks training has looked like:

    Monday
Standing barbell press 3 sets of 8 with 50k
Leg press 2 sets (don't know weight) of 20
One arm dumbbell rows 2 sets of 10, each arm with 40k
Standing EZ bar curls 2 sets of 8, forgot the weight
Lying leg raise super set with crunches
    Stretching

    Wednesday

Barbell squats 2 sets of 5 with 85k
Flat dumbbell press 2 sets of 10 with 32.5k bells
Seated cable rows 2 sets of 10 with 60k
Lying dumbbell hamstring curls 2 sets of 8 with 15k
    Ab work and stretching

Will start keeping a written log of weights, hopefully they will be rising as I get healthier.

    Friday (02/11)

Bodyweight dips, 3 sets of 10
Barbell squats 3 sets of 10 with 60kg
Close grip pulldowns 3 sets of 10 (forgot to record weight)
Dumbbell shrugs, using 35kg 'bells, 3 sets of 15
Bodyweight, standing calf raise, 3 sets to failure

Weights still pretty crap but all exercises feel good and are performed completely under control. The second my form has ideas about breaking, the set stops.

    Monday (05/11)

Barbell squats, one set of 12 with 80kg then two sets of seven with 90kg
Flat Dumbbell press, 2 sets of 8 with 35kg 'bells
One arm dumbbell rows, 2 sets of 9 with 37.5kg dumbbell
Standing EZ bar curl, 3 sets of 8 with 30kg
    Ab work then stretching

Diet has been much improved and I'm starting to feel the benefit both mentally and physically. Sciatica is also under control thanks to the daily stretching routine being adhered to. Currently on the job hunt, I don't want to be off work for too long.

    Wednesday 07/11

    Seated barbell press 50k x 11, 55k x 7
    Leg Press 240k x 2 sets of 10
Low cable row 2 sets of 7, with 70k I think
Lying hamstring dumbbell curls 2 sets of 10 with 12.5k
    An work and stretching

Felt strong tonight despite having to jig things about due to the equipment I wanted to use, being used. The good eating is defo paying dividends and my body feels strong, despite the weights not being where I want them to be, yet. Looking slightly less fat.

    Friday 09/11

Dips. 1 set of 10 with bodyweight, 1 set of 10 with added 5k, 1 set of 3 with added 7.5k (lost focus and felt too much stress in left shoulder so left it there)

    Squats 1 set of 10 with 60k, 2 sets of 10 with 70k

Seemed to be world back day so thought I'd be clever and invent a kneeling cable pull to the throat. Wont be doing that again, was ****.

Dumbbell shrugs, 2 sets of 15 with 40k bells

Bodyweight valve raises, 2 sets of 15

    Ab work and stretching

Nice one, pal. Yes, it's all about stringing the good weeks together so that good months start following each other. Dreading the week that the squats stop improving as that's when the really hard work begins. Being off work at the minute is letting me eat really well, in terms of variety as I can cook fresh food instead of warming things up in microwave.

    Wednesday 14/11

Standing Barbell press 55k for three sets of 6
Leg Press 1 set of 20 with 200k, no rest, continuous tension, absolute killer. 1 set of 7 with 240k.
Seated Cable Row, 2 sets of 7 with 65k then a set of 7 with 50k
    Stretching

Was absolutely ****ed after that set of 20 reps. Never done it non-stop. Thighs feel totally ****ed. All reps on all exercises done with strict form.

Good luck with your goals mate. As Brett say's, you got a pretty good frame already and not too much fat either so a good start.

Are you following any specific plan? Or just a full body with exercises depending on availability at the time?

    Thanks, mate.

I have a plan of sorts with regard to exercise selection but if some kit is busy then I will swap things around. I've swapped gyms so that my time in there is spent training.

I notice on another log you mentioned that you are self administering TRT. What were your Test levels in your blood results? Had you done any cycles in the past that may have caused any suppression?

Mine came back at 12.5nmol/l on the first test and 11nmol/l on the second test. So I'm low according to the charts but still within NHS levels, although my free test levels were below. I didn't even bother asking GP for endo referral as I know from reading online it would be hard work convincing them, so I've decided to self administer.

I'm doing a blast though first, after 12 weeks will go on TRT/cruise doses. I've been natty up to now.

My numerous blood tests average 9.9 total test and, without having the results to had around 275 free test. SHBG was 32. To be honest, I think I've definitely had low T all my life. I've got barely any body hair, up until 4 months ago never had a libido to speak of, mood swings and constant depression. I did a cycle of 8 weeks (500mg of test e per week) when I was 26 and did correct pct following that.

I am now aware that the NHS has dropped the bottom value of its normal range even lower. I bet this is an attempt to head off the stampede of guys to the docs as the value of trt features in more mainstream media channels.

I thought about self administered try for years and have purchased some excellent books, which have increased my knowledge enough to a point where I'm confident I am doing what is right for me. The NHS is amazing in many ways but, unless u have an excellent doctor, they pay little regard to the impact that low T has on a man. I know that I am gonna be jabbing forever and that this treatment may end up shaving some years off of my life. But I couldn't face living life as I was, so made the choice.

Similar levels to me then. I'm pretty confident I've had low T all my life as well as I've had all the symptoms since my teens. It wasn't until deciding to do a cycle and getting a baseline blood test through the advice on here I wouldn't have even known that my T levels were low. Now the past 15 years or so (I'm 32) of unexplained depression and mood swings etc... seem to make sense. I'm only in my second week of jabbing though so yet to feel any real changes yet.
