Will you prioritise KM over weights or vice versa or aim to find a balance? Sounds smart taking rest if needed

My main aim for this year is to pass my next grading. Lifting is important to me buy it will have to take a back seat yo my current goal. The grading is in April I think, date hasn't been announced yet. If I don't pass that one if will be October. Also I have an exam to pass for work on 27th Feb which could impact my mindset and stress levels.

If lifting does have to give I will cut it back to two days a week. Press and deadlift day. Squat and bench day. I could make that work for a few months.

They're hard than they look mate.  I was expecting to load up a bit more but glad I went for 15kg plates rather than 20's, I may even swithc to 10's and get some more reps in. Certainly a nice bit of variety.  I intend to cycle between these and dips for an extra bit of pressing assistance. My aim is volume not intensity so need to play with this and see what works.

Wednesday 9th January 2019
Set my alarm for 4:55 am, couldn't quite manage 4:45, baby steps.

Band Rows -- X rows
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Face Pulls
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Triceps Overhead Extensions
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

BOR
70kg x 10 reps
70kg x 10 reps

Deadlift
70kg x 5 reps
70kg x 5 reps

--Paused with a deficit
120kg x 5 reps
160kg x 5 reps --Wow that got hard quick.  I expected to go up a bit higher but this was the top set today as the world started to go black at the edges.
140kg x 5 reps
140kg x 5 reps
Completely shocked by how hard this was, hams and glutes burning.  Basically this is doing exactly what I want it to do. I'm super weak right now so hopefully that will yield some nice gains. One more weak of these then I'll switch to reverse bands  and load up.

I've been looking at boat rope on ebay and I'm struggling to find a 60mm thick one at 1m long. Plenty of them at 5m lengths though. I'll keep looking but I may just buy the 5m one, cut it up and sell the rest if I have to.

Do you post on Sugden at all now mate?

There's a joke in there somewhere about money for old rope.  Don't worry too much about it being 60mm, I've seen some 50mm and that would do the job.  It's going to be brutal to start with what ever.  Be prepared for sore hands unless you already have tough manly hands.  As an officer worker I had soft hands that were unused to that sort of punishment.

I stopped posting on Sugden since it's pretty dead over there.  Also youtube video stopped working which detracts considerably from why I log in the first place.

For an engineer who worked on the tools for 12 years I have suprisingly soft and girlish hands, apart from some deadlift callous's lol. I'll get the 50mm dia one, my business mind has already kicked in and I'm thinking of making some more with the remaining rope to (attempt to) sell lol.

Funny how your minds starts going and you end up with other uses.  If I have the spare rope (probably a longer length than you will have) then I could attach it to my sled and do some arm over arm pulls.  See, now I'm doing it.

It really shows how weak I am in that part of the range, once I get to the knees it blasts up.  There's a huge disparity between my strength off the floor and my lockout strength.  That's the whole point if this variation though, it focuses right on my weak point.  When I switch to reverse bands the mind set will be reversed, I'll focus on strengths and blasting up heavy loads using my strengths.

Hams, glutes and lats were all toast yesterday.  That's a good thing but in addition I felt the pattern was just better, more efficient. which in turn makes me fell more positive about heavier loads in the future.

Thursday 10th January 2019
Weighed myself today and it turns out I've lost a bit (about half a stone). This is a good thing really as I got a bit fat last year.

Band Rows -- X rows
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Face Pulls
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Triceps Overhead Extensions
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Push ups
Just chucked in 3 sets, didn't count reps, I just did what felt comfortable.  Probably circa 15 reps per set.

A1 Paused Bench Press
60kg x 10 reps
80kg x 10 reps
100kg x 3 reps
110kg x 3 reps
125kg x 5 reps --Pauses could have been longer but it's a start
110kg x 5 reps
110kg x 5 reps

I've changed my setup a little (which is in the video).  Also I've added a belt.  New setup = good.  Belt  = unsure.

A2  Boat Rope Chin Ups
x 3 reps
x 3 reps
x 3 reps
x 3 reps
x 3 reps
x 3 reps
x 3 reps
x 3 reps

EZ Curls
40kg x 5 reps
40kg x 5 reps
40kg x 5 reps --I've moved my grip in a bit and narrower feel a lot stronger.  My right is actually getting involved. Need to up the reps if I'm sticking with his style.

and of course loads of band pull aparts.

Thanks mate, I need more of a pause on the bench but it's a start.  Looking back through my records I have always been strongest when doing paused work.  Those dead are something else, absolutely killer and I could feel the benefit from the first rep.

I still think the infection I had last year screwed me over more than I realised.  Who would have thought such a simple op could make such a difference.  I'm starting to move forward again, I've pretty much been spinning my wheels or going backwards for a year.  Whereas now I'm getting stronger, leaner and I can fight much harder (sorry sparring partners)

Out of interest mate, what were your natty numbers for the big 3 and overhead press?  It can be hard to gauge progress sometimes but I seem to remember at one time we were reasonably close.

No doubt it did mate, the graft you put in and the way you program will no doubt see some big progress this year :)

Natty lifts if I recall correctly were 160kg Bench...200kg Squat...305kg Deadlift and my strict overhead I think was 97.5kg and push was 115kg....hope that helps bud :)

Cheers mate, also good to have a bit of validation that you're heading down the right path.

That's great thanks mate, it gives me a set of standards to aim for.  I never trust these internet tough guy standards.

Band Rows -- X rows

x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Face Pulls
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Triceps Overhead Extensions
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Overhead band squats.
Wow these are awesome, forces tightness in the upper back and just a good lift to warm up the pattern.  Thank you Chris Duffin.

A1 Squats
70kg x 10 reps
120kg x 8 reps

--Paused
160kg x 3 reps
180kg x 5 reps -- Picked the bar up a bit off centre, should have re-racked and tried again but I just went with it.  Man these were tough, the pause really sucked my power.  A set of 5 with 180 is usually a fairly tough set but nothing to write home about. This was maximal, nearly missed the last rep which was all over the place.

150kg x 5 reps --Thats it I'm done.  I gave too much in the 180 set and legs are now jelly.  Need more work capacity.

A2 Trap Bar Pin Press
bar x 10 reps
55kg x 8 reps
55kg x 8 reps
55kg x 8 reps --I dropped the weight a bit so I could get more reps.  Really noticed my medial delts working hard.  That's not unwelcome at all since I don't do anything specifically for them.

band pull aparts.

Feels like I didn't do a great deal today but I was toast after that.  I'm weak at lifts that specifically focus on start strength (apart from dead press which is the opposite), it should mean some nice gains once I can make improvements in this area.
