When I was still doing deadlifts the trap bar was much more forgiving on my sciatica. Definitely puts your back in a better position. Had to sack em off in the end though.

Epic lifting though mate!

Thanks buddy.  Upper back and legs were in bits yesterday but lower back barely felt worked.  I'm happy with that.

Huge pulling mate! I wish my gym had a trap bar.. I’d love to start doing some proper weighted carries!

How many times a week do you train krav? Does your lifting ever affect it much? Heavy shoulder work makes punching really painful for me so I try avoid it before training! Shows I need to build up that lactic threshold tolerance

Cheers mate, it's a great bit of kit and I think has huge benefits to martial arts.  You're bang on about the carries, that's something I want to add back into to my training.  I used to do what I called a viking day where I would work carries and odd lifts.  It was all about heavy conditioning.  That needs to come back in.

I have 2 official lessons a week.  Heavy shoulder work does affect my punching performance but over time I have adapted and it's quite minimal now.  I'll still deload or rest up before a bootcamp or grading though. Something that has helped a lot is striking every day (well almost).  I use it as part of my warm up before I leave the house to go lift.  We're talking shadow boxing and dry drills so not the same at the "real thing" but I still get in ~500 strikes.  This has really helped my endurance, improved technique and serves to get my limbered up.

Nothing better then big deads mate. Great pulling

I'm more of a squat man myself but a heavy pull is indeed enjoyable. Cheers man.

In other news; weight is down to 16st 4lb and I've lost 1/2 an inch off my waist.  I'm not actively dieting, rather I've just stopped eating obvious crap (95% of the time at least).

Them trap bar presses look ace. The variety of lifts you do is amazing, all quality looking lifts with no nonsense just added for the sake of it.

Cheers mate, the balance is funky on a trap bar, it takes a bit of adjustment.  It feel unstable from the get go which is naturally limiting, however,  this is kind of what I want.  Add in explosive nature of a push press and that forces you to adjust rapidly or miss the lift.  Hopefully it will have a positive effect.

I change to different lift variants about once every 3 weeks.  The reason is to keep progress coming, I'm after those untrained noobie gains.  I'll come back to original exercises after the 3 week block and build those up again.  Which will be "new" lifts but I won't have regressed in that time frame so I get the best of both worlds.  Read around component based periodisation if you're interested in this sort of thing mate.

i love those type drills. its all about controlling your breathing. which is easier said then done when they just keep coming!  last night we had 2 on one, one trying to stab you with a knife (rubber but still hurt) while his mate was trying to smash you with punches. i only got cut twice haha

KM just sounds mental! Love the idea but my face is just too pretty -it would be traumatic for women everywhere if I ended up with a bent nose.

Handstand holds? I would expect you to do handstand press-ups! I only ever managed three in a row doing those, and even then they were only to the floor, as in, upper arms only went to parallel.

Solid work though mate!

Tell me about it, add in body shots and breathing is a nightmare.  Knife drills are usually scary, goes to show you will get cut if there's a blade involved.  I wonder if you're the same as me; I usually control my power so I don't go around smashing up my training partners.  However, when the stress goes up control goes out the window.  That's when people get slugged with full power strikes.  On the plus side, in a real world situations I'd be very stressed but also by default, at max power.  Seems like a win win to me.

Thanks buddy.  We've all had times when training hasn't been going our way.  I'm sure thing will turn around eventually.

Ha, it can be, most of the ones that connected were on my forehead.  I keep my chin down and look out "through" my eyebrows.  With gloves it means I get constant whacks, bare knuckle, it would be broken hands.  There's a lot of bone in the brow area (mine in particular).  TBH it's the body shots that really do the damage, a few of them and you can't breathe, if you can't breathe, you can't fight.

The handstand holds are sort of new (done them a handful of times before).  My logic is simply about getting more time under tension in a lockout position. I'm on the fence about these and need to give it a bit more time to see if they are worth it.  I can do handstand push ups (HSPU) and I may well add these in.

I made a dip belt at lunch, I had most of the bits already so and extra fiver outlay is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Ha, I think after a while it's only those that are a bit unhinged that keep it up.  Looking around the class it's funny to think that everyone I see is just as mental as I am.

Same here. As much as I would love to be a double-hard ba$tard I just couldn't cut it, I have never been and will never be a fighter.
I also struggle to fit my training in as it is, so to do some form of martial art training as well would be difficult, without having to cut down on my weight training quite a bit that is. So all credit to those who do it.

It's funny, there's this tough guy image that people have in there heads but in reality the best strikes I've received have come from women. It could also be because I have glitch when fighting girls as in I find id hard because, you don't hit girls.  Damn did I have my world view adjusted the first time I had to spar with a woman.
