Absolute quality lifting there mate. That first vid cracked me up, you recomposing yourself after the glove tear only to smash the lift and then give the weights the middle finger at the end, all whilst the birds in the background are chirping away on a lovely winters day.

Thanks mate.  Yeah seemed to only be that one incident, not sure what happened.  I just got a server pain in my gut then yack, it all came out.  I didn't eat again util the evening just to be on the safe side.

It did make me laugh how I go from focused to nonchalant and then ramp back up to psycho, all in under a minute.

It might be cold right now but I do love effectively being outside.  On a clear winter morning the stars are amazing, it's little things like that which give it a bit of magic.  Although my absolute favourite is heavy fog.  It's always overhead in fog regardless of the schedule.  I love how I'm in my own privater void and not sound or light can penetrate it.  On the downside, my cat scares the **** out of me, he often jumps on my chest while I'm benching.

Mines a bit of a tool, he comes with me when I walk the dog which looks stupid because he's bigger.  I've got a pug (well my daughter has) and the cat is a Maine Coon cross so the cat it taller than the dog.  He's also a bully to the neighbourhood cats as he's getting on for twice as big.  Really makes me jump when he lands on me.

Cheers buddy.  They took a while to work up to but once I go there I can do them whenever.  If you do try, loop a band (or 2) above you in the rack.  As you descend the band helps you out and you can work full ROM reps.  Much better then trying to control it then sinking like a stone. I did them like that for months before I could manage a single unassisted rep.

Thursday 31st January 2019
I've been crazy busy recently, I'll get around to everyone's journals shortly.

Bloody freezing in the garage today.  It was originally zero degrees when I opened the door but quickly dropped to  minus 4.

Band Rows -- X rows
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Face Pulls
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Triceps Overhead Extensions
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

A1 Bench Press
60kg x 10 reps
80kg x 10 reps
100kg x 5 reps
130kg x 2 reps --Went for a longish pause on these ~3 seconds.  Longer pauses are naturally limiting in term of weight but I think they are worth it.  Need to focus on this in my start strength block.

--Reverse Bands on
130kg x 3 reps
150kg x 3 reps --Super easy but I controlled myself this time, it's light week.
130kg x 3 reps
130kg x 3 reps
130kg x 3 reps
130kg x 3 reps

A2 Neutral Grip Chin Ups
x 3 reps
x 3 reps
+10kg x 3 reps
+10kg x 3 reps
+10kg x 3 reps --reduced total volume as intensity had increased.  I can add this back in over time.

band pull aparts (at home and at work).

Real world strength seems to be increasing.  A few people have told me my strikes are getting stronger and I chucked a couple of guys around like rag dolls last night.  I need to be mindful of that, I know we're not baking cakes but at the same time it is just training, don't actually want to hurt these guys.

That's a strong session in a cold gym bud!

Regarding starting strength in bench, if you can set up a dead bench or a pin paused bench or even a pin floor press I think you'd develop better starting strength.

When pausing, even a very long pause you already have many fibres activated.

To build starting strength you want them all turned off prior to lift then focus on turning on as many of those fibres as possible as you fire it up.

The band work will develop your explosive strength (the ability to keep turning on more fibres until your max) so both aspects covered.

Thanks mate, it's one of the ideas I've been toying with.  I think I also have a technique/tightness issue in the bottom position.  In the past long pause reps helped a lot which is why I've started back down that road.  Following the same logic lines as a Spoto press, if I can pause a big weight at or just above the chest then regular reps should feel like cake.

The cogs are turning now and dead bench is certainly worth a go.  I'll give it a go in the next block.  Looking back at my record my best ever dead bench was 140kg x 5 reps and my best big pause is 140kg x 2 rep.  Therefore in terms of volume dead bench looks superior but the total time under tension will be less. Swings and roundabouts but it's good that those two look to have a degree of comparability with each other.

From my training with Aaron back in the day we used a cycle of bands for explosive work, then a cycle of dead bench for starting strength then a cycle of paused as a kind of transition back...we'd then go to normal paused or TnG bench and go for PB.

I do enjoy long paused stuff though I must admit, double paused stuff is good too for fun...pause on chest then again half way up...its brutal! My max was 170kg with that I think, forces perfect form!

Friday 01st February 2019
It's like summer today, almost shorts weather, well apart from the sprinkle of snow.

Band Rows -- X rows
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Face Pulls
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

Band Triceps Overhead Extensions
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps

A1 Squat
70kg x 10 reps
120kg x 5 reps
160kg x 3 reps

--Reverse Bands on
200kg x 3 reps
230kg x 3 reps --What's this actually following the plan and keeping it light?
200kg x 3 reps
200kg x 3 reps
200kg x 3 reps
200kg x 3 reps

A2 EZ Curls
40kg x 10 reps
40kg x 10 reps
40kg x 10 reps
40kg x 10 reps --Upped these by 2 reps per set.  Once I get passed 12's I'll consider upping the weight.  Not really sure why these have suddenly started to improve.  I've always been pants at curls.

band pull aparts (at home and at work).

I didn't have a lot of time today and knew I had to sack something off.  Therefore dumped the press and did HSPU before I started work.

HSPU
x 5 reps
x 5 reps
x 5 reps
x 5 reps
x 5 reps --Easy stuff really, I haven't done these in ages but the skill is still there.
