I used to be quite decent at handstands but reckon I would fall flat on face now trying that. Good sesh here bud



When the weather is a bit warmer I'll practice freestanding again.  It would be a great skill to have.

Initally (years ago) it took me about 6 months to work up to HSPU's but now I can do them whenever.  They're a nice fallback and a great heavy pressing option to have in my back pocket.  A progression up from this is to do them on blocks so my head doesn't limit the ROM. That my friend is a tall ask.
 
So far heavy week is not going so great however my overheads are a funny beast and I have the opposite strengths ans weaknesses than all my other lifts.

Monday 04th February 2019 
Looks like a have a cold yay.  Took a big swig of man up and got stuff done.  I did need to take some hot lemon and honey with me though as throat is giving me issues (probably because my nose is blocked).
 
Band Rows -- X rows

Nordic Curls --Hip Extension

x 3 reps --Started to use too much back, I want to focus on the hams. 
 
A1 Seated Pin Press
60kg x 3 reps
80kg x 3 reps
 
--Reverse Bands on
80kg x 3 reps
100kg x 3 reps
120kg x 0 reps --100 was so easy I expected this to be a walk in the park but it didn't happen. 
110kg x 1 rep --Again this was much harder than expected.  Missed my first attempt but I knew this was down to speed.  Focused and got the rep.  it was a hard rep but I'm glad it happened this way as it showed my how to use my speed. 
90kg x 3 reps
90kg x 6 reps --Only needed 3 but they were easy.  Aim for next cycle is 105 x 3.  Should get that.  
 
A2 SSB Squat
60kg x 10 reps
90kg x 10 reps
90kg x 10 reps
90kg x 10 reps --Kept it light today, saving myself for the rest of the week.
 
band pull aparts (at home and at work).
 
Cocked up my video today but I did manage to get a nice photo of my bench waiting for my to sit down and lift.

It's all good mate, not exactly how I would have planned it but such is life.  It will be interesting to see how I feel tomorrow.  If I'm feeling good and strong then 400 could be on the cards, if not I'll still go heavy but back it down a little, just need to try and beat 365 lol. A 400 triple will happen, it's simply a matter of time.

Cheers mate.  I'm sort of backwards with my press, stronger off the shoulder and weaker at lockout.  The reverse bands emphasise this which I see as a good thing.  Part of my wonders about including more push press/jerk (any means necessary) stuff work to strengthen the top part of the lift.  I've started to go down this path already with he trap bar push press on Fridays but it's not heavy enough for that purpose.  I think I'll have a play at the end of this week and see how it goes.

Good stuff mate.

Triceps! Hammer those triceps! Nothing improves lockout more then slabs of meat hanging off the back of your arms! French Press, Close Grip Bench, Close grip press, weighted dips..

I once set a new years resolution to be able to do a freestanding hand stand, and be able to walk on my hands, just to look cool.
That was prob about 10 years ago and I never even started lol.

 
1RM's @ BW 90kg:
Squat - 170kg / Bench - 120kg / Deadlift - 210kg / Strict OHP - 85kg

Your pressing is immense mate, hope the cold amounts to nothing bud. Saw todays lifts on IG...very solid indeed mate!

Thanks mate.  I agree and I will be looking at ways to get more triceps work in, top of the list is one arm push ups since I can do them anywhere so no excuses.  Reps will be on the low side (unfortunately) but they do have the advantage of working my abs at the same time.
 
Also I could use more speed, never enough speed.

It's always one of my fair weather goals, quite literally, when the suns out and the garden is accessible, that's when I try.   I've worked up to ~10 seconds freestanding but it felt more like a fluke than a deliberate act.  It's a shame really, if I had somewhere to practice in bad weather I'd be all over it.  The grass acts like a mat and gives me some cushioning, without that it's a no go.

Thanks buddy.  It's just a cold (perhaps a mild flu, I do have that flu like ache), I'll be fine once it's gone.  If I took care of myself rather than getting up at stupid o'clock and lifting heavy stuff or fighting in the evening then I'm sure I would get better quicker.

Cold is progressing a bit almost didn't go to KM last night and I almost didn't train today.  However, my fitness showed it's value last night (yep the fat powerlifter type was the fittest man in the room).  Getting out of bed was actually harder than fighting dudes (you don't really have a choice when some else is hitting you).  Roundhouse kicks saved my last night but this morning needed something stronger.

295kg x 1 rep --Really happy with this, I wasn't paying that much attention to the weight on the bar.  When I ran out of big plates that's when I did my maths.  A bit of a shock tbh but great news that I can casually pick up ~300kg

325kg x 1 rep
355kg x 1 rep
385kg x 1 rep -- Sloooow rep.  This rep told me not to push it.  I decided not to even attempt 400 for a single. 
 
The numbers, while not what I wanted, do not tell the whole story.  My form was much much better than last week, really pushing the floor away.  It felt so much more solid.  This is what I want from all my deads. 
 
This block has been fun and my goal was always intensity, however, when it comes time to repeat this I will be dialling it down a touch.  I need to hit today's form but with more reps, intensity will still be high but not at the expense of form.

2 finger push-ups like Bruce ?



They make us do them like this in KF training. (Start on palms , then knuckles then fingers, then again with one hand variations) . I can push up really well, even one hand but fingers no a chance.. really frustrated me that I couldn’t do it until i realised... I don’t weigh 60kgs it’s to be expected ha!

Ha finger tip push ups are out of my league, could be the 60kg thing.  I prefer knuckles anyway, more sport specific for me.
 
Rocky push ups actually appeal since they are reasonably similar to punch mechanics and just look cool.  The reality is I'll just do good old palm on the floor OAPU's for now.  Need a few weeks on the fundamentals before getting fancy.

Forgot to mention the band GM's I did yesterday.  Nothing special just 100 reps with an orange (35kg) band, making sure to feel it in my hamstrings and glutes.  The band allows for a more explosive style than a barbell so I took full advantage of that. Not fancy but I did get a load of blood pumped into the muscles and got a bit of explosive training in.

Thanks Ox.  I'm a lot leaner and more muscular than I have been in a while (still too fat though).   Gonna switch focus a little now and make sure I hit my triple rather than a big single but it will be done, just need to earn it with hard work.
