Dead press is an awesome lift...gives so much power...solid singles bud.

It has a huge impact on my "shove".  When I'm regularly hitting ~90kg I can create a lot of distance with a solid shove. Timed right it can even work as a "soft" solution and stop things before they really start.  That's why I favour them over standard reps, it's the real world application.

Thanks mate, it was a nice test to establish where I am and where I can go from here.  The plan is to use the SSB as much as I can since I'm very weak with it.  However, I also need to overload so I will be doing reverse band squats, that is once I work out how far i need to walk out, lol.

My form was breaking down and it just didn't feel right in the back so I called it a day. I think this is a mobility issue so I will work on that. Given today's lesson I'm unsure how to proceed with deads at this point. I could get very specific and work purely with the Dinnie handles or I could be more general and just up my all round deadlift ability.

Nice lifting, that is some impressive pressing. Need to try a kettlebell curl looks interesting.

Cheers, the press is one of my favourite lifts.  The version of the KB curl I'm doing really stresses the hands, I'm doing this for hand and wrist strength rather than biceps.  There's a few versions I like: hammer grip with the kb extending the lever, holding the handle but to the side (can be done with the bottom facing either direction) and holding the bottom (you can put the handles up or down, down is harder).  Basically it's doing curls anyway but the most logical way .

Good call on the trap bar pulls mate...plenty of time to get them done and you are being sensible.

TBF though 285kg looked comfy, I really want one of these bars to play with ...the one we have in our gym is crap.

Well TBH it wasn't even that heavy, i think 320 would have been there if I'd really pushed it.  The trouble is my hips were giving up and my back was taking over.  Not the worst thing ever but it does tell me there's work to do.  usually this happens when I've slipped into APT (quite a lot as well).  That means I need to work on my Hams, Glutes and abs.  As well as the obvious mobility.

That was a good purchase.  I have a budget of about £250 a year for new equipment, it was a worth every penny.  This one is a heavy duty version with a longer loading area. Rated to 400kg but she can take more.

Cheers Jay, weight wasn't the issue and if I had needed the video evidence so desperately i would have got it.  However, there is no point getting the video and putting myself several step backwards.  Sometimes knowing when to stop and re-group is the best thing you can do.

The Nordic curls are horrible, they're agony doing them and they make my hamstrings cramp up.  This tells me I'm getting some much needed stimulus.  They are in essence a body-weight hamstring curl.  I'm using a band to assist as i can only get a single rep unaided but that is likely to be more than most people can get.  Most people sink like a stone after a few inches. In the video I'm focusing on using knee flexion however, there is a version which focuses on hip extension.  The whole thing really adds up to: a poor mans GHR.

Nordic Curls are the same as Glute Ham raises if I'm not mistaken. Absolute killer of a movement! I haven't done them for a while, I think I gave up doing them because I was so crap at them lol.

Yep, that's it very similar movements.  I make the distinction as a true GHR has both knee flexion and hip extension as part of the same lift.   When doing the natural or poor mans version it usually has one or the other but not both. Very hard movement.

The 130 was rapid.  I'm going to work with 160 (reverse bands) as my main lift until xmas but each week I'll work up as high as is reasonable without the bands.  It's a nice yard stick.

165 mate, I could probably grind out a 160 but it would be on the limit.  I can feel bench strength increasing again, if I keep doing what I have been I expect the numbers to climb.

Chucked in a load of new mobility exercises here. They seemed to work very well as my squatting felt much better than last week. I need to experiment a bit more but this has convinced me that I need to put the effort into mobility. There will be extra KG's on the bar if I get this right.

Squat
70kg x 5 reps
120kg x 5 reps
160kg x 3 reps
190kg x 1 rep --Much better back angle than last weeks 200kg but still not perfect. This quite literally seems to be about the tipping point for me. I'll go a little heaver over the coming weeks but not crazy but it's about this sort of weight that I'm looking for the form breakdown.

--Reverse bands on
190kg x 10 reps
190kg x 5 reps --I intended all sets to be 10 reps but my cardio isn't what it was and that was the limiting factor.
190kg x 6 reps

Dip Crunches
x 5+ reps
x 5+ reps
x 5+ reps
x 5+ reps --Not really sure what to call these. I popped up onto the bars like I was about to start a set of dips but instead raised my hips up and back. These reps were surprisingly hard and my abs were shaking and on fire in no time. I did at least 5 reps each set but never more than 10.

--At lunch
Band Shrugs --1 second pause at top
x 25 reps
x 25 reps
x 25 reps --Much much harder than I expected.

Strong stuff.

I like the style of training, simple movements with max effect. Looking at getting some of those bands to use in a similar way when I am at work and away from the gym.

I also like that green jumper.
