New F1 season 1 month away!!!!!

Is there any other F1 fans on here?

I'm proper missing my F1 Sundays. This is my bloke day where there is no messing about and r lass knows that the remote control is definitely out of bounds to her. I get my Costa coffee machine on and relax on the sofa........ What a way to spend your rest day from training hard all week!!

I'm not one for watching football & rugby etc, just personal preference. Even though I played football all my life (till the injury) I've never been into watching it.

I watch it if its on but i dont go out of my way to watch it...

But iv got an story about meeting Jackie Stewart.
When i was about 17 I was on board a submarine of the coast of Scotland we were due to go in to port the next day. When your due in the day before its quiet normal to get a VIP on. Usually a royal family member or important part of government. Every now and then you get someone good. Anyway its a secret whose coming you never normally find out til they turn up. I was stood at the laundry taking something apart and i turned round to see this old guy with a flap cap on and the skipper looking at me. He was very interested in what i was doing asked loads of questions. After about 5 mins talking about stuff he said sorry iv not introduced my self. Im Jackie Stewart. My response was oh rigggght my mam loves your music. He just laughed and walked off. The skipper looked like he was about to slap me and every one else was pissing there selves....  Didn't find out that i was on about Rod Stewart til about an hour later.... Nice guy tho give us some free tickets to raffle aswell!

ha,

3 impressive parts to that story:
  1. You used to be a submariner........ Fair play buddy, was it good?
  2. You met Jackie Stewart
  3. You took the piss out of him and probably with a dead straight face and got a decent reaction from the boys.
You still in now or you out?

i used to like F1 until i realised it was even less competitive than the premier league. By race 3 its pretty clear who is going to win the constructers and at best a 2 hourse race for the drivers championships

Yep looking forward to it, nice team changes and in testing seems the high screech of the engines are back.
Last year was the best season for a long time.
And Honda engine back in a McLaren car.

Yeah mate, get that.

I used to teach a load of Marines & para's wreck & cave diving but never had anything do do with Submarriners. Cabin fever I guess.

If all the cars are working I get your point but just look at Hamiltons reliability at the beginning of the season last year, allows for others to get in. I'd like it to be closer between the teams this year and not the same Mercedes stomp.

Miss those screaming beasts but I liked the change once I got used to watching/listening to it last year. Be interesting to see Honda back.

Mate I used to think the same years back before I let myself get past my preconceptions of just cars going round in circles for 2 hours. I think it's the tactics as much as the racing that I like. I think it has got better now with fuel restrictions too, adds another dimension.

Ha, agreed. I think it'll be a while before people get to Marquez's level he's just immense at the moment. No fear.

That's simply not true.In 2008, Lewis Hamilton won the championship on the very last corner of the very last race.

In 2010 Sebastian Vettel won the championship on last race, by 1 point. Only the third time in history that the champion had not led the championship up until the point they won it.

Last season, the championship went down to the final race.

If you don't like F1, fair enough, but the justifications most people give aren't sufficient usually. I often think it's simply a case of not trying to like it or watching it enough. It's usually a gripping drama from beginning to end (granted there have been a few exceptions during the Schumacher and Vettel eras).

Have a read about the 2007 season if you don't believe me.

hence, i used to like it.

has it been close since 2010? why have they introduced double points for 1st place in the last race? so they can try and make it close again

You say "used" as if last year (so yes it has been closed since 2010) or 2010 was a long time ago. Even without double points, the championship went down to the wire. Last season was one of the best I've ever watched. Fair enough, it was a two horse race, but it was intense. Better than the years of Ferrari and Red Bull dominating and Schumacher and Vettel strolling to victory without a competent team-mate to fight them.

2013 sebastian vettel won 13  of the 19 races and red bull won 13
2014 lewis hamilton   won 11  of the 19 races and mercedes won 16 of the 19 races.
How can you call that competitive ? Time will tell and maybe this year will be another teams turn to dominate.

Very good point well made.

But surely it is no different to the likes of the Premiership where the teams with the most money will always do best? Man City were very average at best, loads of money now right up there. Chelsea very average loads of money now flying............. Although as a guy from Leeds I'm loving the situation at Man Utd these days.

It's amazing when you see the likes of Daniel Ricardo absolutely loving his time in the car he has earned his seat in. The smile on that guys face is massive every race.

As much as I agree with he tactics and stuff being a selling point. Who gives a fck it makes it dull as **** that some statistician just works out the strategy and the driver then executes it. May as well just a computer to drive the thing. Its only good viewing when it pisses down or sadly their is a crash of sorts.  The best car wins which is annoying though not just relevant to F1.

BSB, WSB and Moto GP are far superior in terms of actual racing.
