New Iphone

So apple is about to launch its new iPhone costing a whopping £1k. I think it looks cool as hell but really has apple lost the plot with this one bad enough at £800 but I think even that's taking the piss imo. Would you buy it? Even if take out a contract for £60 a month?

Apparently the I watch is now the biggest selling watch on the planet eclipsing Rolex. Crazy times.

No ! too much money and theres better/equal alternatives , this is just another phone with a few toys that you dont really need , just got the S8+ and its as fiddly as f4ck , note3 was a much easier to use phone , I think they are almost trying to cram too much crap into these phones now to the point where you need to google pretty much half of the settings changes you need to do , and they are impressive toys that you use once , a bit like 3d tvs.

^^^ that's brilliant.

I agree with you Doc for me all I want from my phone is camera, music player, browser, emails and calls. I have a iPhone six + ATM and the only thing I really can complain about is the screen has a tendency to crack but then again I'm normally on the phone for six hours a day. Whilst the novelty like facial scanners and thumbprints is good it's not imo needed or warranted but hey ho I guess that's how Apple retains its premium brand status which is insane when you think most things premium are low volume but nearly everyone has an apple product.

Say what you like about there products but they are a superb marketing company.

From what I've seen, Apple are still one step behind Samsung. I have the S8 which has the facial recognition feature which is great but annoying sometimes when you just want to see your notifications on your home screen and it unlocks hahhaha

Their products are quality but as with most techy stuff now its only good if you're actually going to use it to its full potential. Most people including myself only use it for the same reasons as Ras - calls, messaging, browsing and music. Which tends to make all the other gadgetry worthless and gimmicky.

I can understand the price though, they are basically computers now, although I could never justify paying it myself. I tend to wait a couple of years and get it when they've brought another 1 or 2 releases out.

I'm impressed with the watch now it has standalone cellular capabilities. Only reason I never bought one (well, that and it would come out of my Sea Dweller fund!).

In the same. I'm always 1 model behind but now they've screwed me and brought out 2 new models ! And my contract is up for renewal on Friday!

My contract was up 1st Sept and EE kept offering me all sorts for iPhone 7+ they genuinely failed to grasp that my phone is a tool and as a business user all I wanted was it to work not pose with. The guy at the end of the phone kept saying "but for only £50 a month you can have all you have now plus the iPhone 7+" didn't seem to comprehend when i said but I don't need it or want it, was just met with another buttttttttttt.

Agreed with the iWatch but having tried one on I think there still a bit too small. Sea Dweller excellent choice sir!!!

If people are prepared, in their droves, to spend £1000 on phones, then Apple would be crazy not to sell them.

Personally, I look at the smartphone market now, particularly the flagships, and shake my head.

Time was, to get great performance and features, you had to buy the latest flagships. iPhones 1-5S,  Galaxy S or Notes up to about the Note 4 gave you performance and specs that cheaper phones just couldn't give you. Using budget phones felt like flimsy toys in comparison.  Yet I was often called a "mug" or a fanboi for choosing the flagships and regularly upgrading.

Fastforward to today,  The only real difference between a budget/Mid Range handset and a flagship is speed, and we are not talking about seconds difference, we are talking milliseconds! (in terms of UI) - Plus of course, the price difference has gone to ridiculous extremes.

I am happily using my £200 Sony XA Ultra,  Its quick and very capable, and can "do" anything that a flagship phone can do,  Fingerprint scanning aside, which I couldn't really give a toss about.

It makes me laugh that all the people that laughed at me for spending £500 on iPhones etc, are falling over themselves to spend £1000 on an iPhone or a Note 8, and at a time where the premium price tag offers so little over the budget or mid range

I must admit though, the Watch with Cellular capability did catch my eye, but it turns out it needs to share a number/account with your phone, rather than being a true standalone,  and to add insult to injury the only UK Network that supports this capability it EE.  So its a no from me.

Removing the Touch Id has to be the most stupid UI move I have witnessed in the last 5 years. Then the shove gesture controls in, removing other gestures, that will need additional gestures for the features that came before it lol. Then the screen that cuts in control UI whilst not actually offering anything at the top left and right corners to acknowledged there being some screen real estate there.
What a ****ing **** show. Hard to believe this is the same company at all. There entire line up except for iPads have gone to utter crap.

Same as Dr.Z above. I've got a Samsung J3 2016 which I bought for £126 from Tesco in March. It does everything I want. Top-up costs me £10 or less per month through Giff Gaff. Cheap as chips.
I use my phone very infrequently and for practical reasons. I don't do games, I don't put music on it. No FB, no Twitter. Just MT
Previous and only phone I had before that was a Galaxy Ace and I had that for five years. Only got rid 'cos of my failing eyesight

Oh, and alongside the Sony, I did inherit the wife's iPhone 5C when she got her upgrade.   I'd actually say that for my money, the 5C is the pinnacle of the iPhone range, it looks great, feels great in the hand, performs well (even now in 2017 on iOS 10!, its a 2013 phone arguably a 2012 phone in a new coat! )  ...yet, and this is the important bit to me ... its not jewellery, I use it as a bike computer when I cycle, or on my exercise bike when I do cardio, via a £3 bungee mount thing.
Being an old phone, I chuck it around, put it in pockets with change and keys, drop it and everything, it still looks great, really can take a beating.

Comes down to what you do with the phone. 90% of people would get as much out of a £200 Android as this IPhone. However they will get it slightly faster and a little smoother.

Phones are becoming much more of a status symbol / emotional purchase. People like to show off that they have the latest IPhone or Samsung.

IPhone is not far off becoming "designer" with that price tag. Makes you wonder how much it costs to build in China, and how many pence they pay their staff every day!

I doubt many will buy it outright at 1000, but they'll be a lot on contract.

I like apple products. I'm willing to pay for an apple product. If you don't like them don't buy them. People that moan about how the company screws you over or the tech is not current and blah blah.. Just don't buy them then! I don't like Gourmet Burger kitchen. I think the burgers are overpriced and not that great. So i don't go.
