Nice bike , what do you think ?

Not normally a fan of Carrera (or halfords for that matter)

..But this little beauty just caught my eye  - Bargain at £199 IMO , looks good too

   What do you reckon ?

Depends on your requirements. For commuting it looks pretty decent to be honest.

    Not bad.

My ebay 'cheapie' fixie is starting to betray its cheapness. I like it but I can't really see it lasting a year of daily use.

It's pretty light, but then there's naff all on it. Should be fine for general running around though and not a bad price.

Halfords often buy other manufacturers frames and put carrera stickers on them.  The best example was the carrera lrs series, actually a merida frame. The bike was at the time was ridden by a xc world champ.  I had the lrs2 kitted out with xt components etc.  £1200ish from merida, originally £800 from halfords, I paid £400 in their sale 1.5 years after release!  Never again will I be put off by branding alone.

For a road bike or mountain bike?  I spent £200 on two wheels recently for my mountain bike... In my eyes well worth the money...

Colleage here at work has got a single speed and loves it.  He reckons it might a tiny bit slower getting off the mark but once you're off you save time from having to change gears.. - plus you have a lot more room on your handlebars for whatever you might want to add on there

It looks like it'll be absolutely fine for recreational use to me.

Not selling single speed to me!  Gears are great and good ones are very fast! The only things that should be on the handlebars are your hands.

    Fixed gear is great.

But not where there are hills.

my cross country bike is single speed.. love it

light weight, less to wrong, very good for keeping fit, and theres something really purist about singlespeed bikes

have ridden fixed wheel bikes on the road... good fun, but as you say John not so good with hills.. fine going up but when you want to havea rest and freewheel down for a bit it can be a pain

velodrome cycling on fixed wheels is fun too, worth a try if you ever get the oppotunity

So is that bike any good then because i might get it, i need a new bike and just want it for a bit of exercise a couple of times a week.

what size for a 6ft person, legs probably longer than normal for someone my height, nothing too freaky.
