Northerners trying to talk to you on the Tube....

(Taken from 'Newsbiscuit')

Northerners to be trained in Tube etiquette

Following a spate of incidents involving Northerners chatting to random strangers, British Transport Police have launched a poster campaign.  ‘We had some seriously scary moments last week’, explained an officer. ‘Last Thursday this guy from Leeds told a complete stranger his name, his business, everything. A complete stranger! Even worse, he was called Alan, and people thought he was saying something about ‘Allah’ and legged it down the carriage.

The next day there were these two chaps from Warrington who wouldn’t stop chatting to strangers. By the time we got there they’d been beaten to death by the mob. Perfectly understandable. These people need to realise that a conversation isn’t our natural habitat, so we get stressed and lash out.’

The poster, to be displayed on all underground trains, depicts a young Asian man with a bomb strapped to his chest, trying to avoid conversation with an overweight man eating a pie with a whippet and flat cap who’s prodding him cheerfully in the chest and obviously trying to chat. The caption reads : You’re not in the North now. We’d rather sit next to the bomber.

‘If you’re from the North and you fancy a chat, just stay where you are – that’s the message, really’ he said. ‘I’m sure you’re a fascinating person, so tell it to somebody who gives a ****. Here’s a clue, they don’t live in London.’

The poster campaign coincides with the raising of the UK chat threat level to severe, as the Metropolitan police confirmed they are ‘very anxious’ not to talk to a man called Jim who keeps telling people about his hobbies.

In a pub last night in London and observed a northern couple buying a pint of Heineken and a Vodka and tonic. He handed over a tenner and not only did he think that would be enough to pay for the drink, he actually thought he'd get change. He looked genuinely shocked when the barmaid asked him for another £1.60p.

I got this a lot when I used to visit London. You cant be remotely friendly to someone in London. Smiling is viewed as unnatural

Couldnt have been a "proper" northerner, we dont drink that piss. Must have been someone originally from the south visiting friends in their £250,000 one bedroom flat lol

Absolutely fvcking nail on head bud.
I enjoy a pint of real ale in my local for £1.55. Nobody is ripped off in the North. Genuine, honest people.

So who are the daft people? The ones who expect it to be less or the ones who are stupid enough to pay it all the time

It's the same in Dublin these days. I keep saying to mates there i'd need to remortgage my house to afford to go out in the bars and clubs down there.

Granted, I drink craft beers that are slightly more expensive than the mass produced beers but I get mates rates in my usual place.

Never understood the whole living in the big smoke thing.

For the price of a detached house with an acre of land and no neighbours oop Norf, you can get a 1 bed flat with maybe a 5sqft yard near a tube station, and if you want a car parking space............................ Hahahahahaha Good Luck.

If you don't say hello or at least smile to someone as you pass in the town up here there must be something wrong, if you do that down south you must be a complete nutter.

I worked in Tooting a couple of years ago and stayed in Wimbledon South, 2 miles. It took me 30 minutes to get there in traffic, I needed to drive as I had all tools & equipment in the van. What a joke!! I could walk it in 15mins!!!

FWIW I'm a southerner (Londoner no less) and I'm the first to admit we are a bunch of cold unfriendly tossers.  I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times I've been "Oooop norf-like", each time I got a warm welcome from everyone.   However, that's not to say when I got onto a packed carriage in the Sheffield Metro that strangers just came up and shook hands!!

Northerners down here....barring two absolute dickheads, they are nearly all nice as pie, I've got a standing invitation to dinner drinks with half a dozen of them, and the invitation is mutual.

Lets not confuse North vs South with Everyone else vs London.

I am from the "North" (technically the midlands), but following Uni now live in the South (Bristol).
I would like to state, that Bristol and most other southern places are nothing like London, except perhaps for drinks prices.

There are a couple of places in the South actually WORSE than London.   Watford is half-full of chavs.  Peterborough is full of ex-London council-house overspill.  Even we Londoners find it repugnant.

Your all from the South as far as I am concerned.

I am with Floydy on the drink prices though, I used to be so glad I could expense my bar tabs when I used to fly to London on business.
£11.80 for 2 G 'n' T's at The Old Red Lion on High Holborn

    Absolutely mate
If I got told my G+T's costed that much I would tell them to take them away! I refuse to be ripped off and the only time I have to accept it, grudgingly, is when I'm at a rock concert.
