RE: Not doing deadlifts for V-shape?
Its a BB myth due to powerlifters having big trunks. Back in the day BB and PL used to train together and have similar diets (not cutting tho) fast forward to today and PL don't care so much any more and eat like crazy as such their trunks got bigger.
Your trunk muscles Abs, TVA and obliques are all slow twitch and as such have very little potential for growth.
My advice is that if you want the V then the deadlift is awesome for developing the whole posterior chain lats and traps included!
