Nuts or nut butter

Is there any health or nutritional disadvantage to eating peanut or almond butter instead of the plain nuts?

Because nuts and seeds are at least 50% fat (oil), you can easily make your own nut butters at home using a food processor or a powerful blender.

To answer the OP question, it would be better to consume a smooth nut butter rather then actual nuts as most of us do not actually chew enough (masticate) to get the nuts broken down into something that we can extract 100% of the nutrients from.

But the satisfaction of crunchy nut butter far outweighs smooth, and actual nuts!
    Amazing.

I make almond and cashew nut butter all the time.  I have a pretty high powered blender which I use for it.  Only thing that I like to add is a bit of cinnamon to give it a slightly sweet taste.  Makes no difference if you consume nuts whole or buttered as long as no other ingredients are added to it.
