The snatch is a power snatch from the floor. Whats the difference in the full movement?

Got a week off this week, then I'm going for 60kg the week after, should be fun seeing if I can move out of the way fast enough before it smacks me on the head!

Ant -with a full movement snatch you will squat under the bar with arms at full extension at the catch and then rise to upright - power snatch from the floor utilises a quarter or half squat movement - BTW will mail you later about supps stuff.

Cheers mate,

Definitely still a power snatch, the squat under portion of the lift (as I do it) is probably somewhere between a half and quarter squat.

However as the weight moves up, I find myself getting deeper on the squat under, so I might progress to the full movement without even realising it!

that's the "joy" of the exercise - the heavier you go the explosive momentum generated by the second/third pull gives less height so you literally must get below the bar "on the rise" else there's no chance -at least that's what the guy coaching me maintains!!

Well I'm back in the saddle again after a week off, done two workouts this week and got a bit carried away, as a result my delts are a bit sore from heavy benching, my legs hurt from heavy squatting, and I have push press coming on tonight!

Not anticipating an incredibly good performance, I'll be happy with 1-2 reps at 60kg though (2.5kg under previous max).

Read your post too late Johnny!

Did push press last night, and got fired up for the lift nicely. Also used Si's tip about putting the bar on the front of the power rack which was VERY handy!

Got a nice triple with 60kg, and was more happy about my explosion than I have ever been!

Think I'll try snatch and clean on Saturday morning, possibly Sunday to let the residual soreness in the legs and traps die down.

Also I think one of the things I wasn't doing before was really accelerating the bar hard by trying to almost "jump" as I started the push.

Took it easy on cleans and snatches on Saturday due to continuing soreness and stayed 10kg below my previous max for both, hopefully there will be something more exciting to report this week!

Push press again today, and struggled with 60kg. Didn't get the explosion I needed due to a 10 minute set of overhead squats with an empty bar the day before.

Its becoming apparent that I can't focus on hypertrophy and my olympic lifts at the same time, so I won't be pushing the weight on the olympics for the next few weeks.

Did push press again last night. Missed out on snatches and cleans last weekend due to the soreness in my legs from the leg workout.

Got a decent triple with 62.5kg, which I think is a PB. Tried an underthumb grip which seemed to help make my wrists a bit more stable than usual.

Push press last night, and I seem to have found a little pre lift routine that helps me.

If I take the bar from the rack, and lock and unlock my knees a few times while supporting the weight, I seem to get a better first rep.

Anyway with that and the underthumb grip I got 65kg for a moderately difficult triple, a new PB!

Well pleased

Switched my training around to provide more compound movements, and I'm looking forward to really hitting these olympic lifts again.

Got 67.5kg for 1 last night, hoping to hit a triple with it next week, and I am seriously looking forward to snatches on Saturday!

Do you lift triples, doubles, etc every week on those Oly lifts?
I would think you should be doing a little more rep work...like 5x5
to build your strength. Doing max effort on a continual basis and you're going to overtrain/overwork your CNS. Anyone agree?

I always stick with triples and sometimes singles. Most of the time while building up to a PB I could do a lot more reps more easily, however I stop short to conserve my energy.

However I probably only hit an absolute max single in a lift every three weeks or so.

Since Oly lifts are all about explosion, and my assistance work covers the higher rep ranges, I don't think a higher rep range for the oly variations is needed.

Got a nice snatch workout in on Saturday, and got that 60kg up!

Felt a bit muscled up, as I'm sure I've lost a little technique having not performed them for the past month or so, however it went up emphatically so I'm happy. As the technique comes back it should be interesting to see how much I can shift.

Got 67.5kg for the triple last night on Push Press, very, very pleased indeed! Roll on 70kg!

First rep always seems to be hardest... is that just me or is it the the same for everyone else?

Cheers help!

Kep the weight low and tried to concentrate on explosion this week in the snatches. I think I've got the slight bit of technique I'd lost back.

Also must make sure to space my snatch workout farther away from my first leg workout of the week. I think it definitely take ssomething out of me.
