Pain Period or "The Pump"

I recently watched Pumping Iron and remember Arnold talking about going through the pain period while lifting. He mentions the last 3 to 4 reps where you feel pain and "the pump" is what actually builds the muscle. He says without this you won't get results. I never really pushed myself through those reps but now I'm thinking I should be (especially since I have a spotter). Do most of you go through these "pain periods" with each set you do?

Arnie - wonderful to look at, but then he has to spoil it by opening his gob.

Maybe with all the aromatised estrogen from his copious D-bol intake arnie did develop period pains?

seriously tho dont belive i thing he said, another famous quote from the Oak gose like this......

" I always train chest after my legs as i belive the heavy breathing from training squats has already warmed the chest up" WTF!

^^Interesting views here lads but think about it - why would he bother making up lies??
IMO training to failure is the only way to get big....

Im sure he belives everything he says however his combination of awsome Genetics for bodybuilding and continual drug support mean that for him it realy was as simple as train hard, eat hard and all else falls into place so whatever theories he developed allong the way are largely utterly irrelevant to the rest of us.

He would most likely still have won 6 Olympia titels training on a 3 day split with only 1 set to failure on a few exercises!
