Paper rounds

Does anyone have a son/daughter who as one?, my daughter is driving me mad, she's 13 and I've checked the legal age and it's 13. I've said no of sorts but I have to respect her for wanting to get off her butt and earn her own money so fair play to her, just seems young to be letting her out at 07:00 in the morning on her own. Am I right or wrong? what's your opinions....

I had a paper round at 13, saying that I'm still doing it and I'm 29 so it must be fairly safe

I don't see many paper boys/girls out in the evening now, that's a good idea I'l look into that...

If it were my kid I'd rather them doing a round at 6:30am than at 5pm in the winter. Dickheads and scum tend to lie in IMO

I did one back in the day, but things seemed a bit safer back then. That said. I dont recall any girls doing it, the bag we used to use was pretty awkward and heavy on certain days, doubt a young girl could manage it?!

Can you find her jobs to do at home or grand parents etc that she could do every week like cutting grass and washing cars that you could pay her the same amount as a paper round ?
Keeps your mind at rest, daughter makes a little bit extra pocket money and you get the jobs done at home - everyones a winner.

Paper roundswere the most lucrative jobs when we were kids. I did 2 rounds (1 residential and 1 to the council offices) in the morning and had to skittles jobs in the evenings.

I don't think I'd feel that comfortable with my daughters doing it. The bags are very heavy. Though I rarely saw people wandering around at 6.30, I'd not be comfortable with the risk. While it may never happen, a paper round is a very predicatable route and timing. Anyone who shows interest would be able to set their watch by a paper boy/girl

Being ginger, I didn't have to worry about undesireable attentions from Mr Peter File and the like. Though it would have been nice to feel loved and wanted

I loved it too, especially when Milkmen left out free cereal samples. Right about the time Nesquick cereal was launched. MMMM.

If I was Evans, I certainly wouldn't have sold the Ferrari 250 GT California!  I'd also be more liberal in my regaling of intimate tales with Billy Piper!!!

I'm leaning towards letting her go for it, I'm in two minds because as RoscOPColtrane points out its the predictability of the route. It's driving me mad actually one minute yes then the next no...

I'm not a parent so maybe my view is clouded. But you can't wrap them up in cotton wool otherwise you'll just have 20 year daughter that is unstreet wise and has no life experience. Of course you're going to worry, that's normal, but I think its one of those things you have to let them do!

Your daughter deserves credit as you said for wanting to earn her own money, Personally I would let her do it......at 13 I,m assuming she travels to school on her own or with friends.....does she not have a friend to do the paper round with just for added piece of mind?.......As a parent I totally understand the worry aspect but independence is a very important trait for them to acquire and they,ll only get that from going it alone sooner or later.

2 of my daughters have paper rounds, they do it early evening 1700 to however long it takes, one is 17 and the other 15,i have taken to either going with them (time permiting).

Its good to have them learn that one has to EARN money and it doesnt come for free,so thats a positive,on the down side its an awfull lot of work for them.

They have to put leaflets inside every paper at home before they go out,at times it can be up to 6 leaflets and they get only a few quid extra.they do earn £20 to £24 quid a week which helps them quite a lot,it is a lot of work though as they do 2 rounds at once.

Saying that i wouldnt have let them do it in my area at 13 years old at 7 in the morning. evening with a friend yes but not on their own.not where i live anyway.
