Pensions, should we bother?

More and more people i talk to are saying that their pensions are disappointing them, are they really worth bothering with?

Whats the point in investing thousands in to pensions that will result in alot less than expected?

Can we invest better ourselves?

I'm not sure. My uncle decided to invest in a couple fo flats when he was younger instead of a pension. He now has a nice little income from them, and he can leave it to his family when he dies....

^^^ Agreed I only pay into a pension atm because in my current role the govt pay a staggering 500 a month into it for me :O but when i get a new job I will be investing on my own. But not everyone is suited to investing on there own and potentially they will lose money so for some people its the right thing to do. Bear in mind it will probably be another 20-30 years before we have another recession like this one unless you plan on retiring in that period you could do alot worse than pay into a normal fund as previously they had been pretty safe

    Just my two cents
