Photography thread spin-off - what camera

As the photography thread is so massively popular, I'm curious as to what cameras people are using.

Me - Fujifilm s9500 for the past six weeks, before that a Canon S1 IS

Wipe the sand outta yer fanny and get in the f***ing squat rack!

Ok so as not to spoil the fantastic photography thread i am transfering my question to here as i didnt think it would cause such debate.

Basicaly i am looking now at buying a DSLR to use along side my compact digital but dont have a clue were to begin. i dont want to buy bottom end as i will only have to upgrade at a later date so im looking for something middle v the road to top end at a reasonable price.

Suggestions have been made around the Nikon d50 or the cannon eos350, my concern is that the d50 is to low end but i could be way out.

So what should i be looking for in a DSLR?

    Any camera suggestions?

the most thing you should look at when getting a dslr is how much have you got to spend for the lenses...

At the end of the day the camera's now are only as good as the person using them you can take the same picture with 2 cameras and different people using them and get good and poor result's IMO

I'd take a look at the Canon 30D (8.2 effective megapixels) or if that is slightly out of budget then the Canon 350D is a top choice....

Yes, the Olympus E-330. Hit and miss though, dont see the point of it to be honest unless shooting at awkward angles.

    I got a D50 a few months ago. (Less than £400 online)

Got a 24-85mm Nikkor lens cheap off ebay and a 2 Gig card from a local shop.

    F*ckin LOVE the thing.

Handles like a dream and gives me great pics.

There's the D70 which is pretty much the same but with a few add-ons and a D80 which is new and twice the price.

I use a Canon 10D MUCH better than a 350D and the 350 is being replaced now anyway.

    Sigma HSM 17-35
    Canon 28-84 USM
    Sigma Apo 70-300

And a 5D with some L glass if I can prise it from my dads hands!

I'd recommend looking at a second-hand 20D, magnisium body, loads of features, good price for something that will last you many years.
