Phyto-Estrogens & Peanut Butter

I read on another forum that they are bad and that you shouldn't eat peanut butter as it contains this phyto-estrogen substance.

I know nothing on the topic so thought I would ask a few questions if that's ok.

- What is it?
- What does it do?
- How can it affect us?
- What foods is it in?

they are plant chemicals found in foods (flax and soy products for example)

basically the argument is similar to that of consuming soya products and the reduction of test levels in men and increase in the female hormone = all the bad things men hate in bodybuilding

im not getting involved in the debate

most plants and fruits and stuff have plant based phyto-osterogens?

And then dairy products, like whey, and meat have mammal based oestrogens.

Bodybuilders are scared sh1tless about the plant based phyto-ostrogens, but not the mammal based oestrogens. Just goes to show where the priorities are...

if i was easily scared, then surely i would avoid the stronger mammal oestrogens rather than weak plant based ones?

Anyways, no need to worry about your peanut butter sandwhiches (oh no, there are phyto-oestrogens in the wheat as well!!!!)

By the sounds of the sarcasm in your reply the stuff is in a lot of things then?

Do the mammal ones do the same thing?

aye they are in a lot of things. and the properties of one kind of phyto-oestrogen could differ from properties of another one.

Dont know much about the mammal ones, but could stand to reason they would be more potent one in the similar way oestrogens in our blood stream. But then again, if you have only limited amount of receptors i dont know how it would work.

I dont know much about the subject, but know enough to find it a bit suspect when just the word "estrogen" gets people scared without looking into the properties, or the potency of it.

i agree with VL on this one, men have oestrogen receptors anyway but you also have a set of nuts to produce test to combat this. Your body also produces naturals levels of oestrogen as well. Bottom line unless you stop producing test as a main hormone in your body you will not become a women or start developing gyno due to eating peanut butter and soya based products. I havent seen any vegans these days that suffer from it and i know quite a few
