Pick my Whey

This is what I'm after.

A Whey protein for muscle gain.

It must not contain artificial colours, flavourings or sweetners.

It must not contain any dodgy hormone malarkey.

It must not contain bovine serum.

It's hard to find something like this sold in the UK.

Ideally, similar to this.
http://www.optimumnutrition.com/products/100-natural-whey-gold-standard-p-202.html

I don't fancy buying from abroad and paying 20bucks shipping and then import tax.

Any suggestions?

Also, is it wise to get one which incorporates some calories too?

Cheers.

    myprotein uses bovine serum.

bulkpowders don't like to list their ingredients.

MP do not use bovine serum where did you get this information. I have a kashrut certificate from MP that states they use non animal rennet as kosher products must not mix milk with meat products. Just look for products with the K mark by them or the V if youre veggie and you can comsume them without any worries. Id use isolate but i get along with NZ WPC75 just fine

    1.5% Bovine serum albumin

This is a protein fraction naturally found in all whey. All whey comes from bovine milk. Unless you are vegan its not an issue.

"The main whey proteins are beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactoglobulin, two small globular proteins that account for about 70 to 80% of total whey protein. Proteins present in lesser amounts include the immunoglobulins IgG, IgA and IgM, but especially IgG, glycomacropeptides, bovine serum albumin, lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase and lysozyme. Whey proteins also contain smaller peptides derived from various proteins which are called biopeptides."

    Thanks

    Bovine serum

The following is from the Designer Whey site FAQ's. What is your problem with serum albumin?

"Q. I saw on your label that there is bovine serum albumin in your product? What is bovine serum albumin? Can it hurt me?

Bovine serum albumin (BSA) gets its name from the Latin name for whey: serum lactis. In the dictionary you will also find that serum means whey. Bovine serum albumin is a naturally occurring minor protein/peptide found in whey protein, and therefore, in cow's milk as well. Simply put, bovine serum albumin is a milk protein. If you currently drink cow's milk, you are consuming bovine serum albumin.

Bovine serum albumin is one of the protein fractions that makes whey protein so beneficial for health. BSA is rich in cysteine residues that are necessary for the production of glutathione—the body's most important antioxidant (Fundamentals of Dairy Chemistry, 1988). Research shows that glutathione acts as an anti-oxidant, protecting cells against free radicals that can cause cancer and accelerate aging. Glutathione may also help to enhance your immune system."

Other websites say bovine serum comes from purified cow's blood.

The fact that it doesn't appear in most Whey proteins means that it is not an 'essential'. I would prefer not to have purified cow's blood. It is connected to the beef industry rather than dairy.

All I want is a protein without artificial rubbish or cow's blood. They sell it in America, how come we Brits have to put up with rubbish?

Right, so the answer to my original question is that you don't know.

are people referring to me here or someone else with regards to bad attitude? Im assuming savak is vegetarian so as such i suggested two alternatives that are very feasable and answered the question of recommending a protein powder that does not contain bovine serum. not once has savak explained why its important not to contain bovine serum and i assume the reference this user has relaing to bovine serum is from wikipedia where it does state that its made from purified cows blood. However bovine serum from what i understand is different to Rennet. Agree with Adil as the reason i order from MP is because their products are certified kosher which guarantees animal welfare as well as purity of product in question.

Generally when some says "bovine serum" in big bold capitalised letters it means theyre shouting in the digital world plus i didnt see any courtesy from this user so as a please or a thank you so my response was blunt and curt. I also do not appreciate being included in one users assumptions that "us brits" have to put up with rubbish products that i happen to use on a frequent basis either

So protein options are as follows:

    Pea Protein Isolate
    Hemp Protein Isolate
    Liquid Egg Whites
    Soy Isolate
    Brown Rice Concentrate

All of these can be used PWO as i will assume that what the whey was going to be used for.
