just make sure that when you do your DE days you are not training to failure as these should be active recovery days, not 100% effort days

11am Thursday

DE Bench

Speed Bench

Narrow Grip 65kg 3x8
Wide Grip 65kg 3x8
Regular Grip 65kg 2x8

Close Grip Bench Press

85kg x 5
90kg x 5
95kg x 5

Swiss Ball DB Bench Press

32kg 3x8

Tate Press

14kg x 8
16kg x 8

Good workout today, speed bench was nice and fast, didnt really feel like I'd done anything. Close grip bench was good, new PB, could probably of done 6 maybe 7 reps on the final set. DB Bench was nothing special and the tate press hurt like a bitch as always.

you should go light mate. Up to about 75% max effort. Reason why is that these are active recovery days and are supposed to be used just to flush nutrients into the blood rather than cause more microtrauma

WOW long time since I've been in here!

I have another week of scheduled rest to go then I'm back in the gym.

I'm leaving the westside training until I can do the squat/deadlift days also.

I'm going for more of a hypertrophy training approach for the next six weeks.

My back is getting better, still has a fair bit to go though. With the help of an angel and making sure I stick at being sensible it shouldnt take too long.

Oh and I've ordered some handgrippers to play with.

I ponced about in the gym today, did a bit of chest and back work, took it easy, in the hope of reducing my DOMS when i start training again on sunday.

Had a go at flat DB presses, not done them for ages, its been flat bench or dips, my left side is defiantely weaker so i'm gonna stick to DB press for 6 weeks or so I think. The only problem is picking the heavy ones up with a bad back, so I may not do it i dunno.

I've decided to drop the westside for now, I want to save it until I can do the leg training. So I'm using this time to try different things out as what I can do/pick up is limited by my injury. I'm gonna experiment with isometric and accentuated eccentric training.

Todays Back Workout - Sunday 2pm

Incline Bench Rows - Elbows flared to roughly 45 degrees
26kg 3x8

Accntuated Eccentric Pullups - 10 second eccentric, explosive concentric 5x2

bodyweight 2, 2
+5kg 2
+10 2,2

One Arm Seated Row

25kg 10, 10, 8.

The workout was pretty good. Once I got the right weight for the pull ups it was a killer. I think I'll try all sets with 5-7.5kg next week as there is no way I could do all with 10kg. On the second concentric of the 5th set I nearly shat myself and made dying sounds. [V]
Incline Bench Rows were great, I'm really beginning to like them. Will try 28kg bells next time, I want to work in the 6-8 rep range.
Seated Row was good, slightly higher reps but still as painful as the lower reps.

I've got 2 different back workouts which I'm going to alternate each week.

Next workout Chest + Shoulders, bring it on!

Experimental Chest Workout - Tuesday 4pm

Bench Press - Regular Grip
Bar x 20
40kg x 8
60kg x 5
work sets
80kg x 8
90kg x 6
100kg x 4

30 Degree Incline DB Press
28kg x 10
30kg x 7, 5

Accentuated Eccentric Bench Press, 10 second eccentric, explosive concentric 5x2
70kg 2, 2, 2, 2, 2.

Cuban Press
10kg x 8
12kg x 8
15kg x 8 Superset with one set L-lateral raises 3kg x 10

This was a really hard workout today. Regular bench was alright, I hoped to get 6 with the 100kg but I failed on the 5th rep. I plan to add 2.5kg each week and keep the reps about that same.

Tried a higher incline today, normally use 15 degrees. The incline definately made a difference, it was hard!I will probably use 30kg on all the sets next time.

The final exercise was interesting, I think its definately worth sticking with for a while. I dont think I could handle any more weight, it was about my limit. I was a sweaty mess after this exercise!

Threw in some rotator cuff work to finish, I'm still not doing any direct shoulder work yet so I'm doing this hoping to get back into it, I'll do high volume external rotations with a band every other training day.

Next workout is arms! [:0] yes I have an arm day!

Arm Workout! 2pm Thursday

Close Grip Foam Press

70kg x 8
80kg x 8
90kg x 6

Wall Supported Hammer Curls

14kg x 8
16kg x 8
18kg x 3!! [:(!]

DB Skullcrushers

14kg x 8, 5
12kg x 6

Incline DB Curls

12kg x 10
14kg x 7, 3!! [:(!]

Well this workout was interesting to say the least. It was hard work! My arms are a lagging bodypart so I thought I'd try giving them they're own day and see what happens. The moment my reps start stop progressing on any of the workouts I'm going to ditch this day.

Did the foam press today to really load up the triceps, was suprised at the weight being as hard as it was though! The hammer curls were good, used a wall for support as my back is still a bit iffy, much better though, could really feel this one.

The skullcrushers seemed hard but I suppose I am doing slight higher reps than normal so I suppose the weight seems light because of that. Incline curls felt really good, have done them for about 2 years, I'm definately going to keep them in my regular exercise repetoire.

On the whole I'm pleased, nice to pump up the ego training arms

Back Workout 4pm Sunday

Incline Bench Rows - Elbows flared to roughly 45 degrees

28kg 8, 8, 7

Accntuated Eccentric Pullups - 10 second eccentric, explosive concentric 5x2

+7.5kg 2, 2, 2, 2, 2

Seated Row - 5 second isometric at end of concentric

27.5kg + Doubled mini band 6, 5, 7

Good workout today, hard work. Incline rows were good, couldnt quite get 8 reps on the final set, couldnt get a full range of motion. I think I should get it next time.

The pullups were good, they give me the most incredible forearm pump. I think the 7.5kg was the right weight, I had to cheat to complete the final concentric. I think I'll probably go for 10kg next week though.

The seated rows were interesting, my gym doesnt have a proper machine so we used the bottom pulley on the crossover. With the miniband on there it put up enough resistance. The 5 second isometrics were the 5hit, I could feel my whole back contract. They also highlighted a definite weakness on the left. This also nailed my forearms, so much so that I had to use straps on the final set.
