Prepping for a show using only Huel and water - here we go

I am going to prep for a show.
Looking to come down to about 80kg, which will suit me for weight classes but potentially harm me for height classes.
Can't have it both ways.

I am using Dr Scott Stevenson's Fortitude Training programme for weights, plus boxing for cardio.

For nutrition, I am using only Huel and water. Nothing else.

I plan to start out at around 1.5 x the usual daily amount, and reduce according to rate of fat loss.

This is an experiment looking at two things:

1) Conditioning and retention of size.
2) The effect this diet together with training and low dose super supps will have on my lipid values (these are fairly poor right now).

Pics will come in due course, as will blood work evidence via testing by Medichecks.

I have base bloodwork to use as a reference (last week's data).

If all goes to plan, I will end up shredded and with good blood values.

Let the fun begin (the Huel should arrive tomorrow and I intend to begin tomorrow night).

Will be interesting to see what effects on hunger you will have consuming only a liquid food source.

Best of luck righty, will follow with interest.

Does Huel have sufficient fiber properties for keeping the number 2's in order?

When is the show?

Hi Righty.
It's a pretty revolutionary undertaking to survive on a liquid diet alone but this Huel food substitute appears to be all one needs to function without solid food. Knowing your past exploits and typical maverick style, I know you will pull this off, however tempting that succulent steak or chicken dinner is. And with no snacks, choccy bars, anything. Immense self-control.

Very interesting mate. You could be rewriting biological science with this endeavour. Good luck

I'll be watching this journal closely.  Huel wasn't designed for competative bodybuilders - indeed, it wasn't designed for recreational bodybuilders, but for normal, busy people who don't want to prepare food.

However, due to it's macro proportions, I do see it has a firm use in recreational bodybuilding.  I am sceptical about its use in pre-comp dieting though.  My main scepticism is that, when I compile pre-comp plans, I vary macro ratios at different times of the day when the body needs to be in different metabolic states, ie fat loss vs recovery, primarily.  As Huel has a set macro profile, you can't manipulate macros.

However, I've known righty for years - personally and through here.  I know he's intelligent enough to know what to do and he knows his own body.  He'll be promoting fat loss through cardio.  I have also seen the rock hard, shredded condition righty has got into before when he's competed.

Really cool that you're dsupporting projects I'm involved in, righty: Huel, competiting in the PCA Core Classic and posting a journal on here.  Tell you what, I'll sponsor your tan and give you free Liquid Sun Rayz for the show - then you're using nearly everything I'm involved with!

Thanks guys and girls.

To answer a couple of posts:

I will, without fail, stick to Huel and water.
A friend in work was an early adopter of Huel - he is a powerlifter - and is thriving on the stuff.
That's good enough for me as a food source.

Now, I will be attempting to get into awesome condition, but there are limitations.

Let's outline them from the start so that there are no unrealistic expectations:

1) Max super supp will be 250mg/week.
2) I am nearer 50 than 40 now, so the miracles of youthful hormone levels have long left me.
3) Huel isn't designed for this.

Expanding on 3), as James says above - there's a hurdle to leap as regards being unable to vary macro ratios (calories is another matter). ;)

However, as James also mentions above - vary output when input is fixed. That is, more cardio.

Now, it may come to it that I feel the need to fortify this diet with EAA or BCAA to shore up the leucine content.
Or I may add another protein source (vegetable not animal).

I have, in the past, got shredded, as in glutes with cuts all over them.
But that was the past with youth on my side, more gear, a variable macro diet etc.

So, let's see - if I diet down and look decent enough to look decent on stage, I'll do the show.

If I can't make the grade through whatever limitations, there is still a valuable outcome to be had from this - blood and conditioning data.

I have decided to try a Huel approach not because James is a friend (he is) but because I believe in the product.

What is also cheery is that my P/L friend says he is very satiated on Huel - zero hunger, zero cravings. So that will hopefully remove the 4am starving phenomenon when on a typical pre-comp diet seriously devoid of adequate fibre to slow passage of food.

As regards the offer of the Liquid Sun Rayz - very kind James - let's discuss once I know I'm a confirmed entry.

To reiterate - my biggest concern is NOT whether I can stick to a Huel-only diet for an entire prep (I can).
It is actually whether I have left myself enough time for the show - less than two months - to get into condition.

Hueling (verb) starts from about now (due a meal at 7pm).

Day two with Huel.

Deceptively filling. I think this could be ideal for dieting for the everyday man.

Tastes pretty decent - like sweet oats to me.Actually reminds me of the flavour of a powder Weider used to make many years ago.

Here's a thought mate... it's not about self-control.
Rather, it's about us as a Westernised society having far too many utterly rubbish options for food in the first place.
Consuming only Huel still gives me many more food sources and a more rounded macro and micro pool than some deprived nations - and they get by just fine (in general) and are very often physically superior to the sickly, fat Western person.

You only miss what you've experienced - in Western terms, that's 1000001 packets of empty calories for the most part.

Ahaha.
Seeing Johnny Napalm's pre-show pics has really fired me up.

Haven't mentioned it in this thread yet, but most who know me know I'm using the Fortitude Training system by Dr Scott Stevenson for the training aspect.

Everyone I know who has given this a fair go has adopted it as their default bodybuilding system.

EDIT: Yes, I have mentioned it in the original post, lol. #memory=duh

Well, let's see. :)
I put on a LOT of mass training with Dr Scott last year, then stopped training around June (like I always do - get a load of size on then go "meh" and stop again - psychological issue there for sure).

Now I've lost a bit of that size but it'll come back very quickly now I've resumed Fortitude Training again, lmao.

Ok, just to head this one off at the pass - if you want a copy of the Fortitude system, go here: http://drscottstevenson.com/forum/misc.php?page=FTProducts

Don't PM me asking for a copy. Buy it.

Copies are uniquely watermarked - necessary because people don't like paying for things.

No more PMs please.
