Private Health Insurance??

Anyone got any experience of this or has taken out a subscription / policy with the likes of BUPA etc or an alternative?
Are they worth the premiums - if for nothing else than the peace of mind that you'll be covered and more quickly dealt with for more serious illnesses you may fall foul of as opposed to the potentially long wait you'd endure going through the NHS?
I'm looking into possibly investing so any suggestions of good companies & prices together with experiences of the service received would be welcomed.

Cheers guys

My company has a policy with BUPA for a small fee, iv knocked it back though.

My mother needed a knee op on the NHS. She had an appointment with a specialist three weeks after her first talk with her GP. She ran into an old friend of hers who was private at the specialist appointment she had been waiting two weeks. They has there operations done 3 days apart from each other at the same private hospital by the same surgeon. Now normally my mother would of shared a room but she had it to her self, where as the BUPA patient should always have a room to there self.
In my view the money isnt worth it for a quicker 10 days, and lets face it if it was an emergency you wouldn't of been waiting the ten days. I also know a guy with BUPA who didn't get his own room he had to share because of lack of spaces. Dont get me wrong there is probably lots of ups to it but all i can see is the fact i pay tax which contributes to the NHS so why pay twice. Especially when the surgeon/doctor/nurse who will treat me will be NHS staff anyway. And there is more chance i will end up in an NHS hospital oppose to a private one (just on shear bed numbers).
