Protein Absorption

I've read many times that your body can only absorb a certain about of protein at one time and the rest is ****ted out. I believe this is right. I've heard its like 40 grams at one time.

Is it possible to make a 100g shake of protein and ingest it over an hour period of time for maximum absorbtion and to get a high intake of protein each day or is it a waste of protein and should just have separate shakes. I used to make a 60g shake and take it to my workout and drink it throughout and I thought it worked pretty good for me, anyone ever do that before, is that good to do. Thanks for your input guys.

We still don't know what the exact amount of protein one can absorb in one sitting is. There are quite a few factors affecting the amount on top of it.

Some of these factors include: bodyweight, time (demand is higher post workout for example), source of protein, etc.

The thing is, amino acids are not stored in the body. The body can store "fat" and "carbs", not protein. Now...the body is in constant demand of amino acids but it can't store them, that's why you should be providing the body with "protein" frequently throughout the day and not all of it in one shot because the extra amount (whatever that may be) will not be stored.

Yeh would break it up m8 over the period of the day..IMO a bit much 100g to take that quickly but would be better suited to have them at regular intervals like YIB said above.
No point in wasting good protein eh

Hi sorry for stealing the thread a little but this is along the same line. Is the body more perceptive to protein intake an hour after a work out??? I'm sure I read this somewhere. If so I presume that an ideal time to have a protein shake would be at this time for maximum absorption.

It would also depend on the digestion speed. For example necking 100g of whey would probably result in some not being used for muscle building. However if you ate a good meal containing the same amount of protein but slow release protein then more would probably be used

Hi Guys, try going for half your body weight in grms per serving. ie if your 80kg go for 40grms of protein per serving. i allways go for a little more in my post training meal when your body needs it most. hope this helps
