Protein Lollies - beat those hot day ice cream cravings!
At our house the freezer is always stacked with tempting frozen goods at this time of year, like Magnums, Soleros etc. The Mrs. and kids of course tuck into these but there's always a slight element of guilt when I do too.
So I've been making my own protein lollies that I can basically eat guilt-free!
Recipe (makes 6 small lollies):
1 scoop whey
1 scoop casein
2 tablespoons natural yoghurt
1 teaspoon sweetener
1 tablespoon cocoa (raw cocoa powder, not drinking chocolate which is full of sugar)
50ml (ish) of milk
Chuck everything into a protein shaker and shake it up. If it's too thick (i.e. sticking to the edges) then add a little more milk. You could probably use water instead of milk if you like.
You can then pour from the spout of the protein shaker into the lolly moulds. I use these kinds of moulds:https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6x-Silicone-Push-Up-Frozen-Stick-Ice-Cream-Pop-Yogurt-Jelly-Lolly-Maker-Mould-UK/142434976199
...but you could use any type of mould really.
This amount is enough to fill 6 of those moulds with a little left over that i add a bit of water to and neck. The yoghurt is there to give it more of an ice cream texture. You could use water or milk but it would be like an ice lolly rather than an ice cream.
Freeze for a few hours and you're good to go. They taste pretty much like a chocolate mini milk. There is about 8g pro per lolly and minimal carbs/sugar, so go ahead and have two or three. In your face, Magnum!
Hope this is of use to other ice cream lovers also suffering in this heat.
