Pub Roast Beef Dinner

You go to a bog standard pub and order roast beef dinner. The above is what you get. It cost £7.99. On a scale of one to ten how happy would you be with your purchase?

I voted 5/10

for under £8 you can go to a Toby Carvery, get some roast turkey and roast pork added to your beef, plus unlimited Yorkies, spuds and veg so that dinner is not real value for a cheap roast dinner.

And I would also be able to control the amount of gravy. What the point of crispy roast potatoes if they drown them and make them soggy

Yes, and the gravy is clearly package stuff that has just been knocked up out of a carton. No meat juices or anything, which is a deeply troubling first world problem.

Unless you go to Marco Pierre Shytes restaurant where everything is made with a stock cube and tastes fantastic

Best pub/restaurant roast I've had for a while was here

http://www.thelaughinggravy.co.uk/

Most places are pretty disappointing for roasts tbh.

Portion size - looks ok for 8 quid
Taste - I don't know, but it does all look like it just came out of a packet
Presentation - poor

I'd give it a 5.

There's numerous places near me that'll do a Sunday carvery for £7 that would knock spots off that. Massive Yorkshire puddings, fresh veg and enough meat for 2 normal people.

That looks piss poor. Piss poor food makes me sad.

Crown Carvery in Coventry near me does 3 meat roast ( Gammon, Beef, Turkey) on a Saturday with unlimited veg, stuffing and potatoes etc. for £4.39 and always tastes great. Compare that to the pic above and it beats it hands down, 1/10 for me.

Looks like the Yorkshire came from a packet and so I will I'll assume the same for the rest. There is a huge range in quality when it comes to roast beef. Can't judge that fairly from a pic, but my hopes for anything other than shoe leather would be slim on first sight.

There is one near me. While the meat & veggies are always top notch considering the price, the potatoes in these carveries always seem to taste bland and watery to me. Its enough to put me off the whole (otherwise great) meal.

Toby carvery is pretty good, the roast potatoes are decent and it's not bad value for £6.. Saying that, it can be hit and miss.
