i never understand how the dvla take so long to do things

unless they have a 4 week back log of work why does it take so long

you'd expect things to take a few days.. but what do they really do for 4 weeks

In Scotland we dont have to send our license away.  We just take our paper copy upto the local council office.  They put your points on it take your money and thats you done and dusted.

I'd rather send it. Less embarrassing

I do a lot of push ups and sit ups. And I drink plenty of milk.

    You tried ringing them?

I've never had any issues with it- sent it off when moving house and had it back in no time (removed the points from a previous offence at the same time unprompted  too).

ring the place you sent it (local highway police or whatever they are called) they will tell you if it has been sent back.

like when i rang mine and they fobbed it off onto the postal service who also said they have never had it! arseholes!

For any experts out there i'd love to know where i stand, I got banned from driving (drink driving) before i even had a licence.

Now when I actually do get my licence will it have points on it?

And will it effect me when getting insured?

if id guessed you cant get your license until the ban is over, or if you get your license it will be immediately taken away until the ban is over. just a guess tho

It will absolutely murder your insurance premiums mate. They will be sky high.

You must have been done for driving driving, driving without a license, driving without insurance right? I would expect a big ban from that.

I would guess when your ban comes off you can apply for a license?

I was banned for drink driving 2 years ago. The DR10 offence is listed on the paper part of your licence, you don't get points. It's on your licence for 11 years, affects insurance for 5-6 years and you probably won't be able to hire a car for 6 years. YOu apply for your licence to be returned up to 2 months before the ban ends. Do not drive BEFORE the date on your new licence and it almost definitely won't be the exact date they took it off you. Have you done the drink-drive course? This reduces your ban by 25% and well worth it - especially since they give you numbers for companies that will insure you. Also recommend you buy a car that's a low insurance group. I've a 206 and they are very good for this sort of thing, despite me having a large engine!

It's also a criminal conviction and you MUST tell your home insurer as all as car insurance. If you don't and ever need to claim then they will run a search and refuse payout. Also job applications where asked.
