As a rule of thumb: If you are not at home or out in the open - don’t even think about lighting up.

    But walking your fine.
Unless your going to a building sites, prison or mental hospital - there all fine

    What Ghopki said, but
    geneticallyjacked
what the law is regarding smoking outside office doors on the footpath in Ireland.

I don't think the law specifically stipulates that smoking outside office doors is illegal (as long as there is no roof overhead, altho I'm open to correction).
A lot of the smoking areas here are constructed around the front door ime.

That said, it tends to be socially unacceptable to smoke outside the front door.

cheers Dan that's what i thought too. the door way is more open than any pub door and I get away with that there

It depends on the person really.
Some people don't see any difference between that and pissing on their front door.
Just chalk it down to experience and stay wide of the door in future, not much more you can do mate

In the UK, smoking and associated shelters are meant to be IIRC 2m from a building. Though it's not really observed or enforced. I imagin Ireland may have a similar framework?

    That would work.

I always have to stand in the hotel foyer for about 10 minutes before the gym opens. Every morning a load of fag hags assemble about 0.1 inches away from the entrance and smoke like trains. Needless to say the wind blows it all back in. Just what i need before training

You might find offices (I know mine does) as part of health and safety stipulate that designated smoking areas have to be used.

we had a smoking area at work in a courtyard, but because it was enclosed by 4 walls (but open air - no roof?) it was deemed to be illegal to be used as a smoking area.

    go figure

now they have ugly looking bike shed like shelters outside.

Well i know in our work they had to build a smoking bus stop style shelter ( still illegal, 3 sides and a roof),it had to go on the other side of the car park..think in the north you have to be 15ft or sommin like that from an entrance.
