Always hoped benn would contribute to helping him financially, he was a warrior and still a fighter going thru what he has gone thru, real shame

That's a shame a massive shame....no one should end up like that...I'm so glad now that fights are stopped early to save fighters from punishment that could result in them finishing up that way....I'm as soft as a bag o sh1te and it breaks my heart to see guys like that.

It's hard to be humble when I'm so great...

If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize...Muhammad Ali

i have a book that tells the story of the build up the fight and the aftermath.it looks like hes improved from the condition he was in when the book was written which he doesnt obviously understand.iirc his final purse for that fight was 47,000.

I thought he was worse than that from reports I had heard. It's just good to see him able to hear anything at all and able to smile and talk.

have to say i am one of those people that thinks such a thing would never happen to me, imo you convince yourself you will be ok so that it doesnt play on your mind, at least thats what i do anyway.

    Isn't he from Scarboro ?

I will always remember the Benn - Mclelland fight , obviously a terrible outcome but at the time before we knew the extent of his injurys it was the most exciting fight I'd ever seen.

No biggie like, there are a lot worse things for you than using steroids, I mean I probably shouldn't have been smoking crack or getting into bar fights at your age TBH  - drab4

I remember that fight as i had a fight the night before and was looking forward to watching it for weeks beforehand . Totall shame but i wish he was taken care of better by all the big wigs of the sport . By the way his names McClennan not McClelland .

He does have his own website, donations to his care fund can be made there.

That night of the fight we stood 6,1" and weighed in at 165LBS

But carried the punch power of a much bigger man.

Yeah Im from Scarborough, I just live up here now
U see Paul in the bookies al the time, getting picked up by his mum at teatime. Hes at least 18 stone (fat) now at about 5"7, and is severly mentally & physically handicapped
Its really sad to see, but then again its the nature of the sprt
