Ronnie Coleman - The King

Anyone watched this?  I found it almost heartbreaking to see Big Ron in that state... even though he deals with it all very well.

While his peers, for the biggest part do seem to pay him due respect, I did find my eyes rolling a bit at the subtle implication that Ronnie's health was the logical outcome of what he did to become Mr O,  and that the difference between Ronnie and them is that they simply "chose" not to do the things Ronnie did,  Bull****, If they had the cards Ronnie was dealt, his genetics and his capacity to train, they too would have milked it as hard as they could, you can't tell me that, at that level they weren't pushing their own envelopes as hard as they could, and that they were holding back to preserve their long term health?  To be fair, Jay Cutler did come right out and say he simply couldn't do what Ronnie did, but he also used phrases like "training smarter"... suggesting that there was some kind of conscious decision not to Squat 800lbs, rather than the fact that he just could do it.

Great viewing though, I think Ronnie is the most Humble and likeable Mr O, I really hope he makes a decent recovery that gives him a good quality of life.

Yes it was a good doc, even from a non-BBing enthusiast.

While others pushed themselves just as hard as Ronnie, Ronnie could never stop and let it go. He constantly defied doctors orders and went right back to training, very soon after surgery...trying to get big again! There’s a vid of him lifting in the hospital ffs. 10 back operations! But he just couldn’t let it go. Dorian pushed himself hard, but look at him now, dropped the weight,, took up Yoga and blazing!

It’s so sad, IMO he is the GOAT but his time has passed and he should not be lifting in the state he’s in. There’s even a rumour he’s unable to walk now and is permanently in a wheelchair!

What documentary is it and where can we watch it?

Are there any other decent docs to watch on BB or on the topic of weightlifting or powerlifting? Think I have exhausted the choices on Netflix

I watched it on Saturday.  Excellent film.

Heart breaking to see him in such a state and witnessing the manifestation of his level of addiction.

There's also a new film on strongman on NetFlix (can't remember what it's called and I've not watched it yet...).  It follows Brian Shaw, Hafthor and Eddie (I think) during the prep for WSM.

Other than that, there's some physique films, a few BBing films (including pumping iron 1&2) and some really goods films on PEDs, plus some crossfit and lots of nutrition docs.  NetFlix is a bit of a gold mine for training films.

Gotta love big Ronnie and yes he pushed himself to the limit and beyond to bring a physique never seen before, but I think his health today comes down to his inability to stay away from the gym and continue to train straight after numerous 11? serious operations breaking pins etc as it did about his heavy lifting and loose form back in the day..I wish two things for Ronnie 1 he stays away from the gym and takes up yoga, snooker or fishing something that keeps him out of the gym. 2 he recovers enough to enjoy the rest of his life pain free and not in a fcuking wheelchair.

Ronnie you have nothing to prove to anyone back off listen to your doctors and physio's and chill ffs.

I'm a massive Dorian fan as previous posts on here would testify but he is talking some right old pub b0ll0x now he's up to his gunnels in dope.

Dorians in a better place and used his noggin when he retired, i recall an interview where he was saying loads of fans had commented on his reduction in size and as he rightly pointed out what use was it to him now his competative days were numbered, Shawn Ray was the same it just makes sense from an health point of view not to be carting round 300lb of musle/bulk.

All i was pointing out above was he's talking some right sh1te nowadays, he's spliffed out of his head there was a huge thread on md about him talking sh1t, the Holocaust never happened was the biggie, but for some bizzare reason it upset silent rep.

I think he just meant that the fact that he might be high out of his mind isn't really comparable to Ronnie ruining his body and possibly never walking again from sheer stubbornness and his inability to let go once he was past his prime.

I have not watched it but maybe its that drive and stubboness that got him to the point that he was, maybe was that reason that got him to the best in the world. Some people have that in them and its there love.

Not in the same league but my father had a bad heart attack and bad heart problems, hes 66 years old we have a family business and he has a steady pension and last time he was in hospital i said thats it no working no more your retired.

he turned to me in tears and said please dont make me retire i dont want to die an old man sat beside my pool. Ill die quicker, its that the keeps me alive and buzzing and looking for new ideas etc
