Rough MOT Cost?

Could people give me some reasonable estimates as to how much my MOT SHOULD cost? Obvious it'll vary on multiple factors, but there must be a range it'll fall into.

Im dubious as to whether to take it to my usual garage, I was in for an interim service last month and it cost me £90 after labour and VAT, which seemed ridiculous as it only involved an oil top up.

Work that needs doing:

New front number plate
Rusty wheel arch
1 wheel bearing
Rear wiper not working

Think there was something else, cant remember. Car is a 98 Punto.

Any thoughts?

To hard to price up when stuff needs doing. If you know that needs doing can you not get some one you know to do it cheap before hand?

How much are they usually for testing and stuff?

Never been in for one before.

Think the MOT itself is no more than 55 quid(?), but can be booked in advance for half that price in certain places.
As for the stuff that needs to be done I can't be certain but a numberplate should be around a tenner and I dont think a rear wiper is needed.

Ok good to know. I'll maybe get my dad to do some of it. This garage strikes me as a bunch of rip off wankers.

Don't quote me but you MAY find that if the wiper is there it may NEED to be working to pass the MOT

An MOT, which has a Govt set tarrif IIRC is around £50. Prices will vary a bit and some places will do you a deal but there is no need to pay more than that I'm sure

Could well be right about the wiper actually. May be best to remove it!

Take it to a garage that only does MOT's.

Take it to a garage that does MOT and repairs they will usually try and fail any little point as it means extra £££ for them to fix and pass it.
    As for the work:
New front number plate £10 at the most
Rusty wheel arch -Could need welding £50
1 wheel bearing £60 at the most
Rear wiper not working -  Faulty fuse?

Fair enough, as I say I'll take it to a different garage as they'll charge me £300 for all that prob.

    Its a 98 Punto Sporting.

Best bet is to check on the punto forums for a reliable dealer as you said should cost £300 at the very most.
