Routine for parents ?

My parents are both in their 50's and would like to do some sort of 'toning' ?
Neither of them do any exercise at the minute and they both have quite demanding jobs which are becomming more difficult to do ( the lifting involved etc..)
They asked me but I only lift heavy for strength and have no idea in which direction to point them ?
I suggested joining a gym and using some of the machines but due to embarrassment they would prefer to purchase some weights and workout at home
Any ideas at all would be much appreciated ? ?

    Hi mate

I would firstly advise for them to look at their current diets, this would be the starting point. Would then introducing them into starting some light cardio first of, maybe walking, cycling etc. If they are not doing any exercise at the moment these would be a good starting point to break into it.

If the idea of the gym doesn't appeal to them im sure they could pick up some light weights fairly cheaply, after all they are going to have different aims/objectives to yourself.

At their age they shouldnt do any weights until they are proficient in the bodyweight exercises. Some light walking, pushups, free squats, situps, lunges should seem em well for a while
