Rude people should be shot - REPEATEDLY !!

gee some people really have no manners - it costs nothing these days.

today as there was a narrow stairs i let someone come up before i attempted to go down. Now normal people would acknowledge that fact but not the guy who was coming up the stairs and just breezed past saying nothing.

same goes for people who you hold the doors open so they can follow you through and dont says thanks

ill have to start carrying a sawn off shotgun now !!!!!

aye, just the way it is

i'm a bloody courteous lad and always let people through in the car, hold doors open, please & thank you etc.. and the number of smarmy gits that don't give the slightest sense of gratitude is ever increasing! Even when being served in shops etc, there's a fair few that are totally ignorant and don't bloody deserve the custom from me!

If you can't beat em, join em..

Ignore them, put the problem in a box, close the lid and throw the box in the bin. Then forget it ever happened.

yeah but you can beat 'em by being better than them. Be polite, be a better person, considerate etc. At the end of the day, most people will think you're nice. They will think he is a ****.

It helps to make a sarcastic retort. Just say as he walks past in silence, in a sarcy tone "You're welcome" and be on your way. He'll get the message and I bet he says thanks to the next person!

Actually there is a v satisfying thing to do.

When im on the door and i open the door for someone and say 'have a goodnight', if they ignore me (some do) and just walk through the open door that im holding for them as if they expect me to hold it open for them because they are the queen or something, i wait for them to go out the door then shout loudly 'THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANKS FOR HOLDING THE FUKING DOOR!!!'

In every case they turn round and apologise for not thanking me for holding the door open. Why the fuk should a 16 stone cut bodybuilder hold the door open for some drunk prat, its not my job description to stand opening doors for everyone, so if i show courtesy then they must show some manners and say thankyou in return.

I do similar to BB without the swearing. In fact did it last weekend with a couple coming down some stairs, waited at the bottom for them to come down (and very slowly at that) and no acknowledgement at all.....they weren't even a young couple, they were in their 60's easily. 'Thank you' I said to then as though I was thanking them for letting me wait. Still no acknowledgement. They then put their stufff into the boot of their Bentley

It is annoying, a thank -you when you get the door for someone etc costs nothing! Always try to be polite as i can and help if needed, like pushchairs negotiaiing stairs etc- you may be the person needing help one day!

Really don't know why people are like it, maybe a class thing?

Maybe the people who don't say thanks for these minor courtesies were:

    - In a rush
    - Daydreaming
    - Dislike talking to strangers
    - Idiots who are not worth your while
    - Whatever

Have to say, I've never understood this "need" to be thanked for minor pleasantries. If you like holding doors etc then that's cool. Why the bother about being thanked for it though? I don't understand that part.

Common courtesy- if someone does something for you, you acknowledge them.

    Just my opinion that's all.

I think it's known as common courtesy mate.

From a very young age i had instilled in me manners cost nothing and they "make a man"

Given recent events i think perhaps this is another example of the lack of tolerance people seem to have these days

Because the 'thankyou' or a smile costs nothing. Opening the door for someone is a gesture of greeting and goodwill and respect. Eg i open the door for someone coming into my club, or someone asks where the toilets are and i tell them, if they dont say thankyou then they are basically expecting me to tell them like they are superior to me and im their slave so i have to tell them or run their errans.

No, im nobodys slave and if i (16 stone cut bodybuilder who is physically superior to them) can not recieve a simple thankyou from them, next time when the boot is on the other foot they will suffer.

Example, a while back im walking along, stuck up women walking directly towards me, she doesnt move out of my way, now normally id happily move out of the way for anyone male or female, but this women just looked like a bloody snob the way she was walking and dressed. She gets 2 metres in front of me and still on slight collision course BUT I DIDNT MOVE OUT HER WAY. BANG!!! she flies off my shoulder and ends up flung against one of those green wire mesh fences that was on side of walkway, i hear her shouting and cursing me from behind.

I didnt move out of her way, she expected me to move but i didnt because i knew she wouldnt have said thankyou...as a result she ends up flung against the fence.

So thats what happens if courtesy isnt given to people.

I agree Andy. I don't get fuming about it, but some acknoeldegement that you showed them this courtest would be nice.

If you let the door slam in front of them they'd likely comment.

It's not something I get wond up over if an isolated incident, but if there's a wave of people ignoring this then I get a little ticked off.

On our honeymoon the place was packed with these people who thought I must have been there to hold doors open for them. Reached its limit when we walked down a narrow path and I walked side on to allow more room and this group kept walking 2 a breast without even a smile.... about halfway thru them I thought sod this, squared up and figured I certainly wouldn't come off the worse if they decided to continue and carried on like they weren't there, cheeky fcukers!

Me and you are total opposites BritBB. I can't even imagine what must go through your head when you do such a thing.

Anyone else here do similar things then? If you don't get thanked, or if someone looks stuck-up, do you lash out physically?

I'm not meaning to be insulting here, but a lot of the posts in this thread seem NOTHING to do with politeness. More to do with a power-trip. One-upmanship.

I am personally a big fan of holding open doors etc. But I know that at some time in my life I must have not thanked someone.

Maybe I was busy, in a rush. Or daydreaming. Talking to someone else, distracted. Or just didn't realise anyone was holding a door or whatever.

Maybe if I was a woman and not a 6 foot skinhead, someone would have bounced me against a fence for my accidental rudeness.

Can anyone here see the points I'm making?
